for those of us blessed (read: cursed) with the perfectionist gene, making mistakes is incredibly difficult. it’s also difficult to take those mistakes and learn from them; it’s much easier to sweep them under the proverbial rug and pretend that we have never made one single mistake in our entire lives.
but…if we don’t make mistakes, we don’t grow. to grow is to learn, and to learn is to make that mistake in the first place. it’s embarrassing, and if you’re like me, tears will always prickle your eyeballs at very inopportune moments. but we are human, and we are not faultless, and we are not robots who do everything perfectly the first time.
it is through mistakes that we get to know ourselves, what we are capable of, and what we are capable of fixing. because isn’t a mistake just an opportunity to start over and do it better the second time? ok that’s total bullshit. mistakes suck. i’m perfect. aren’t you?
