the sephora sale wishlist

let’s hope this sale goes better than the one in the fall

hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light, mini $22 // i’m not a powder girl on most days, but with summer coming and my penchant for dewy skin i need a little more help in the setting department.  i usually use a powder foundation for this purpose, but have been wanting dim light for years and years.  i’m going for the mini as i know i would never make my way through the full size, even though the mini is a fraction of the product for half the price.  maybe i’ll change my mind on the size when the sale comes around…

stila stay all day waterproof eyeliner micro tip, $22 // i am sooo not an eyeliner girl, but every now and then i want to try it out in a very subtle way.  i saw that stila just came out with their cult eyeliner with a super fine little micro tip and that is right up my alley.  what better time to try it out than with an extra 15% off?  i would prefer a brown eyeliner, but i think it would be nice to have one black eyeliner in my makeup bag.

clarins beauty flash balm, $48 // this is one of my sister’s all time favorite, repurchased items and it has been on the back of my mind for months.  it seems to be quite similar to my beloved first aid beauty coconut primer and bliss ex-glow-sion, but i want to try this cult fave just for fun.

marc jacobs le marc lip creme lipstick in cream and sugar, $30 // i have read a ton of good things about this new marc jacobs lipstick shade.  it seems to be the perfect peachy pink nude for us lighter skinned kids.

if this is all news to you (i doubt it), the sephora sale for vib rouge starts today and for us lesser folks next week on the 20th.  what’s on your wishlist?

february picks

it was an extremely busy month for me, so not a ton of picks but the ones i do have are even more special and reliable.  this month was about keeping myself sane and healthy, which for the most part i did a good job of, minus the fact that i’m currently in bed with strep throat!  what were your favorites for the month of february?bbfebpicks5.jpg// skincare //

origins original skin retexturizing mask // this is a beautiful exfoliating mask with a base of rose clay, which is a gentle way to draw impurities out of the skin.  when you wash this mask off, you also get a very gentle physical exfoliating effect thanks to jojoba beads included in the mask.  this mask never makes my dry skin feel too dry or tight, just cleansed and purified.  highly recommend at least trying a sample – it’s the best clay mask i’ve ever used.bbfebpicks4.jpgpaula’s choice skin perfecting 2% bha toner // after struggling with my skin for the past 6 months, my dermatologist recommended me to add an antibiotic and differin cream onto the aczone cream that i already use.  and i decided that i just didn’t want to do it.  the creams are so drying on my already dry skin and i always react poorly to them for months.  after some hefty research, i decided to try the pc 2% bha toner which is great for clogged pores especially.  and after using it for 2 straight weeks, i am finally over the purging period and i am so impressed.  my skin isn’t perfect, but it is so much better and any pimple that i get clears up quickly and leaves much less pigmentation than usually.  all of this combined with the fact that i also went off birth control recently, this toner is a keeper for sure.  it’s also not drying!  at all!

// extras //

aesop resurrection hand balm // this hand cream deserves all the hype around it as well as the hefty price tag ($27).  it sinks into the skin almost immediately, leaving no grease or residue on the hands.  pretty sure this has single handedly saved my dry, overwashed hands this winter.  it is expensive, but absolutely worth it – and not even as or more expensive than some hand creams on the market, if that makes sense.  plus it smells delicious – a beautiful mix of woods and citrus that fades quickly.bbfebpicks3.jpgdedcool fragrance 02 // after wanting to try this dedcool fragrance for at least 6 months now, i finally bit the bullet just after the new year.  and i say this fragrance, because i knew that it was the exact one of the bunch that i would enjoy – mainly because it’s mostly sandalwood.  the inclusion of juniper is so gorgeous and very unique.  i can truly say this fragrance is like nothing i’ve ever tried or smelled before and i am absolutely in love with it.  it sits very close to the skin and settles to a warm, light sandalwood base.  dedcool is very nicely priced for fragrance ($70 for 50ml), nontoxic, vegan, and unisex.  according to the brand, “02 embodies the dark aroma of juniper mixed with green floral and sandalwood. This scent balances femininity with masculinity” and “intermingles rich hues of sandalwood and juniper berries to craft the unflawed musky blend of gender neutrality.”  of all the sandalwood fragrances that i own and love, this is the best of the bunch.  also, i got this at neiman marcus combined with a 15% off coupon they had for signing up for emails!

pura d’or shampoo // as i mentioned, i recently went off birth control, and i think that this caused my hair to start falling out.  now it really wasn’t bad at all and i managed to not panic too much, but i was still worried.  my sister recommended this shampoo and i love it!  not only has it helped the fall out (could also be that my body adjusted to the lack of extra hormones), but i love how it makes my hair feel.  it is sulfate-free and natural (?).  even if it didn’t help protect my hair against breakage and fall out, i would still love and recommend this.bbfebpicks2.jpg// entertainment //

girls season one // i absolutely adored girls when the first season was released.  the rest of the seasons just didn’t do it for me, but the first one is just as hysterical and well-written as ever.  highly recommend rewatching the first season whether you completed the series or not!

matilda on youtube // simple, to the point, and delightfully australian.  i just love her!  i find myself watching and rewatching her videos whenever i’m on youtube – also just having them on as background noise.  she shares my deep love for olio e osso balms, so really i don’t need to say anymore than that!bbfebpicks6.jpgbbfebpicks1.jpg

recent acquisitions

soooo i had a big long post about all of these products, why i bought them, when i bought them…and then it disappeared.  i guess i didn’t save it, but really i’m thinking it just vanished into thin air.  and because i am busy and tired and stressed, i am just going to post the pictures i took and save you and me some time!  the only product i am not using right now is the mad hippie exfoliating serum – i’ve switched to a salicylic acid product because my acne is a little cray right now and the aha’s in this aren’t the right thing.  but i digress…bb recent acqs7bb recent acqs4bb recent acqs6bb recent acqs5bb recent acqs2bb recent acqs8bb recent acqs1dr. bronner’s arnica-menthol magic balm // relieves my sore back and shoulders

rms x3 x2

bb rms trios4.jpgover the holidays – yes way back them – rms came out with two trios.  there was an eye trio available exclusively at anthropologie and a lip and cheek trio available exclusively at free people.  anthropologie’s trio was of plummy and gold eye polishes, which are probably my favorite product from rms.  the palette featured the shades reflect, solar, and magnetic, none of which i have tried previously.  free people’s trio was of red and pink lip2cheeks and lip shines in kissable, modest, and illusive, and also came with the rms blush brush, a makeup bag, and 2 rms makeup removers. bb rms trios1.jpgbb rms trios2.jpg my sis got me the anthropologie eye trio for christmas and i purchased the free people set for $16.  YES you read that right – i was able to get a full size blush brush and three lip and cheek shades for $16.  i can’t find these products online, but i’m sure they will pop up on ebay or poshmark soon!  i’m so pleased that i was able to grab these partly for their adorableness, partly to try new things, and partly because i was really wanting that blush brush.  love when things work out! bb rms trios3.jpgbb rms trios5.jpg

early morning makeup, pt 2

i posted about my early morning makeup routine just a few months ago, but since then it has become faster and far more refined.  at the time of part 1, i was student teaching just 2 days a week, and now i am student teaching full time.  sooo early mornings every day means less fuss and a tighter schedule. bb early morning makeup2 1.jpgfor my base, i’ve been keeping it light and glowy, but that’s pretty standard.  i’ve been having some stress and/or hormone-related breakouts in my chin area, so i picked up the sephora make no mistake full coverage concealer to make them easier and faster to cover up.  i use the shade 03 poppy and it couldn’t be more perfect.  this can get cakey quite quickly, but i think i’ve figured out exactly how much to use.  i’ve been applying it with a real techniques lip brush and then blending it out with the rt deluxe crease brush.  i use my glossier stretch concealer in light to brighten my under-eyes and correct any other redness around my face.bb early morning makeup2 3.jpgfor my birthday i splurged on the charlotte tilbury filmstar bronze and glow, so i’ve been popping the bronzer on to wake me up and make me look like an actual alive person.  i carry my mineral fusion pressed powder in cool 1 in my school bag for when i feel shiny throughout the day – i never fully realized how rude florescent lights are.  i switched to this powder after completely shattering my alima pure pressed foundation.  even though i love that product and have kept the packaging for when i get around to buying a refill, it’s so beyond fragile.  i have never had a product shatter on me so many times and i’m very careful with my products.

for eyes i use that rt deluxe crease brush with whatever sephora concealer is left on it to conceal any veins and overall brighten the lids.  this concealer doesn’t crease when applied so sparingly and i really like it on my eyes.  i curl my lashes as per usual and go in with a coat or two of the w3ll people mascara.  i’m going to purchase the full size when i run out of this sample – i think it’s my favorite mascara i’ve tried in a while.bb early morning makeup2 2.jpgand that’s it!  insanely natural but pulled together and clean looking.  what more can you ask for at 5 am?!  especially since i do all of this with just a small compact mirror while sitting in bed.

french pharmacy favorites

bb french pharmacy1.jpgok i know you’re rolling your eyes at the title of this post, but don’t leave me just yet!  it’s such a cliche post these days, but it’s true – these are some of my absolute favorite products, and they happen to come from the “french pharmacy” as well.  at the bottom of this post, peek some of my favorite posts and videos in the same vein as this one.bb french pharmacy2.jpgbb french pharmacy3.jpgembryolisse lait creme concentrate // i have had this moisturizer on hand for years.  it’s a very simple but effective product and intensely hydrates the skin without being greasy or overly sticky.  i usually use this in the morning for hydration and as a dewy primer before makeup, but i have used it as night in a pinch as well.  this product doesn’t have the best ingredients and i hate that it contains mineral oil and fragrance, but i can’t deny the effectiveness.bb french pharmacy7.jpgklorane dry shampoo // this is quite honestly the only dry shampoo i have ever tried.  i’m not a big dry shampoo user, but it’s a product that i need to have on hand, just in case.  this gives the hair not only a clean feeling but a bit of oomph and volume which i definitely need when i’m foregoing a wash.  i will occasionally spray it on damp hair which gives the hair a nice amount of grit and volume, a trick i found thanks to this post on the file.bb french pharmacy4.jpgavene eau thermale // i have mentioned this product a looot, so i won’t bore your ears/eyes, but it is now a staple for me that i don’t ever want to be without.  i spray this after showering and washing my face to remove the minerals in my water that irritate my skin.  it’s also excellent as a mid-day refresher and to take the powderiness away from your makeup.  this is going to be aaamazing come summertime so i am going to purchase some of the travel size bottles to keep in my bags and car.bb french pharmacy5.jpgbioderma sensibio h2o // another product that i mention quite frequently, but it’s just that good.  it’s the perfect first step to a nighttime routine, especially if you don’t wear a ton of makeup.  it’s just a staple and beautifully basic!  i switched over to the garnier micellar water some months ago because it’s easier for me to find, but i did pick up another bottle of bioderma for when i finish the garnier.  yes, they are pretty much the exact same product, but sometimes it’s nice to have something a little bit more fun and french, yeah?

bioderma sensibio mask // i have mentioned this mask before, but i originally bought it when i finished my second tub of the glossier moon mask.  i was really just looking for something new to replace the glossier, and this turned out to be sooo much better!  i feel like it hydrates my skin for days to come, versus the less permanent results of the glossier.  extremely soothing, takes away redness, and gives my skin a lift.  it’s also great as a hand mask!  i have previously tried the light moisturizer in this line as well and can honestly say bioderma has some great basics.bb french pharmacy6.jpgand, if you’re not bored yet, peek these french ladies:

best discoveries of 2017

bb2017 2.jpgwoweeee, is it really time for a 2017 roundup?  that is truly shocking.  as i did last year, i thought i would put together all the products, brands, and other items that i discovered and fell in love with in 2017.bb2017 1.jpgproducts //

la roche posay tolerane hydrating cleanser: a beautifully basic cleanser for those of us with dry skin that don’t feel like washing our faces with lotion.  i love this because i can tell that it’s cleaning my face but isn’t stripping it, which is surprisingly hard to find.  i think the best description of this is to compare it to cetaphil, but with good ingredients and hydrating benefits.  mentioned here.

thayer’s alcohol-free witch hazel: the best toner.  it makes my skin feel hydrated and balanced and i do think it has been keeping my skin more clear and glowy than usual.  i use this always during my nighttime skincare routine, and in the morning if i feel oily or sweaty and need to give my face a little rinse.  mentioned here.

indie lee squalane oil: i went through 2 whole bottles of this oil this year!  this oil is both lightweight and intensely hydrating, making it perfect for both day and night use.  i can honestly say this oil has a firm place in my skincare routines.  my one critique is that the packaging has become unusable on both bottles, so i’ve had to decant it into another dropper bottle.  mentioned here.

jordan samuel hydrate: this was a later discovery for me, but i’ve gone through an entire 1 oz bottle and have moved on to the new 4 oz. size.  this is the most wonderful hyaluronic acid serum i’ve ever tried, due to the inclusion of aloe and other hydrating and soothing ingredients.  the price is also very reasonable, and the 4 oz. size offers a savings of $44.  if you like the hylamide low molecular ha, i think you will be even more pleased with this product as the textures and results are similar, but definitely amped in the js.  mentioned here.

clinique mineral spf: aaaand the mineral sunscreen search is finally over!  this sunscreen is completely phsyical, very hydrating, doesn’t leave a white cast, easy to find, and reasonably priced (even though the container is quite small).  i am absolutely ecstatic to have discovered this product.  mentioned here.

first aid beauty hello fab coconut primer: you may recall my search for a more natural product similar to mac strobe cream.  and here it is, bohemians.  this primer has a gorgeous pinky glow with incredible moisturizing benefits.  i don’t go a day without it and it’s very easy to get sample sizes as sephora perks!  on its own or under other base products, this is FAB!  get it?  ugh.  mentioned here.

glossier stretch concealer: i finally caved and bought this, and my only regret is that i didn’t do it sooner.  the shade light has the perfect slightly peachy tone to work both under my eyes and around my face, and most days i smush this into my skin as a light foundation.  i wish that i could replace this with the rms un-cover up, but until they release ANY cool toned shades, the glossier stretch concealer is a firm favorite.  it has even turned my into an under-eye-concealer-wearer – at least a little bit! mentioned here.

colourpop super shock shadow in mixed tape: i bought a few colourpop products at the beginning of 2017, but this is the only one that has stuck around for the long haul.  the perfect silvery taupe shade, this product is insanely easy to smush onto the eyelids and call it a day.  i wear this both during the day and at night, which is definitely saying something.  i even bought a backup!  mentioned here.

rms swift shadow in tt-73: like colourpop mixed tape, this is an eye shadow i reach for both day and night.  it’s a beautiful neutral, midtone brown with a hint of sheen that gives the most natural, undone look.  i absolutely adore it and every time i put it away, i miss it and put it back in my makeup bag again.  mentioned here.

burt’s bees lipstick in nile nude: once again, a product i wear both day and night.  i think this is the real test of how much i love something, actually.  this creamy, hydrating lipstick lightens up my lips the perfect amount with a hint of peachy, browny, pink sheen.  staple status.

kosas lipstick in stardust: i know kosas is all over the interwebs right now, but there is absolutely a million reasons why.  stardust is the most stunning neutral shade that makes my lips slightly bitten but without being over the top.  again, peachy browny deliciousness that i have around at all times.  if you want a lipstick that offers a hint of color but doesn’t look like full on lipstick, stardust is your gal.  and the name.  the name!  mentioned here.

j.hannah nail polish in ghost ranch, iris, and watermelon: though expensive, these 7-free polishes are one of my absolute favorite formulas.  the color range is incredibly unique and based around the concept of color for people who hate color.  i definitely have my eye on more shades.  mentioned here.

primal pit past roll-on in jasmine: finally a natural deodorant that really works for me.  natural deodorants are different for everyone, so it has taken quite a bit of trial and error to find the one that works best for me.  i prefer the roll-on version of this brand versus the pot version, but both are solid choices.  plus, this doesn’t leave permanent stains on clothing like the schmidt’s rose + vanilla did (my previous favorite).

everyday coconut hydrating shampoo and conditioner: very basic sulfate-free products, but very effective ones.  these make my hair feel summer-like even in the winter when it wants to be lank and limp.  after buying bulk sizes during the summer, i’m steadily making my way through, but i think i’ve found my favorite eco shampoo and conditioner duo.  mentioned here.bb2017 3.jpgbrands //

frank body: i’ve seen this brand a ton around instagram over the years because of their coffee scrubs, but i was never interested until reading about their glow mask.  the mask is truly delicious (it smells like frosting), and gives my skin an instant, glowy boost.  it’s one of those masks that you leave on for just a few minutes, so it’s perfect for mornings when your skin is especially lackluster.  their lip balm is also a staple in my purse these days – it is very similar to the glossier balm dotcom, but formulated with lanolin, vitamin e, and coconut oil instead of petroleum and other nasties.  frank can also be found at ulta, which makes it very easy to restock!  mentioned here.

alima pure: alima is my absolute dream brand.  i find myself reaching for their products on a daily basis, and each one is more useable than the next.  it’s a brand that i just click with, from their ethos to their ingredients, and i think that is hard to find these days.  my favorites are the pressed foundation, pressed eye shadow in icon, and lip tint in honey.  mentioned here.

winter skin & keeping my glow

glowy skincare favorites: alllll about moisture, hydrating ingredients, and oilsbb glow1.jpgmy skincare routine typically stays the same step-wise, but i may switch out the products i’m using from time to time.  for me, it’s all about moisturizing layers sandwiched together, and this is true for my makeup too.  i always start with a hylaronic acid serum, and the one i’ve been loving for months is the jordan samuel hydrate serum.  he just released a 4 oz. size with about $50 in savings, so i’m going to pick that up soon as i’m starting to run out.  i let this soak in typically on damp skin, either from a witch hazel toner or a hydrating rosewater spray.  next i’ve been using the s.w. basics original cream, which is an oil-based moisturizer that feels like a balm at first.  i rub this on the back of my hand to get the oils to melt, then apply to the face.  the less the better for this product – you will still get the insanely moisturizing benefits don’t worry.  after letting this sink in, but while there is still a tiny amount of product sitting on the skin, i layer on an oil.  lately i’ve been using the indie lee squalane, of course, and everyday oil, which is a mixture of lots of goodies.  this is of course my night time routine as it is quite heavy duty – in the morning i go straight in with my makeup routine because my skin is still so hydrated.

as far as glowy masks go, my two favorites are the frank body glow mask and the bioderma sensibio mask, which is a newer one to me.  you’ve heard me go on about the frank one, but it really makes your skin deliciously glowy in just a matter of minutes.  the bioderma one is my replacement for my glossier moon mask – after years of using that one i just wanted to try something different.  i do think i prefer the bioderma one.  for me, it feels like it really makes a difference for days, not just the hours after like the glossier one seems too.  both are great options, though.bb glow5.jpgglowy makeup favorites: lightweight layers & basesbb glow2.jpglike i said, i typically go straight into my makeup routine in the morning.  i’ll spray my face with a hydrating spray like the tatcha luminous dewy skin mist, which i sadly finished up after taking these pictures.  i’ll then apply my sunscreen and let that sink in for about 10 minutes if i have time.  this is a firm favorite for me, and i love that it hydrates the skin and protects me from the sun at the same time.  after that, i will apply embryolisse and first aid beauty hello fab coconut primer, sometimes mixed together and sometimes separately.  i’m more likely to use a base product now that i am at my palest and need a little boost.  these include glossier skin tint in light, vapour beauty atmosphere luminous foundation stick in 110 (the EXACT color of my skin which is incredible), and nars radiant tinted moisturizer in terre neuve are my go-to’s.  and yes, i did repurchase the nars.  after having an allergic reaction to my ilia tinted moisturizer, i decided to go back to this old favorite even though it doesn’t have a great rating on ewg.  i use so little that i can justify it!bb glow4.jpgglossier stretch concealer in light is my go to concealer for under my nose, on my chin, and around my eyes.  it is so hydrating that it doesn’t make me look extra dry, which typically happens if i conceal these areas.  if i’m not feeling any other base, i will smush a little of this on any other areas of redness – it has a very similar effect to the vapour foundation stick.  blush is also a go-to in the winter, to amp up my already cold-flushed cheeks!  usually i go for a cream one like ilia in tenderly or pixi in baby petal, but i recently picked up this nars blush in bumpy ride and love the effect.  it’s very pigmented so i apply the teeniest bit and it just livens up my entire face.  this has a very subtle sheen to it, as well.bb glow3.jpg
