bb june picks1.jpga face wash duo // i’ve been mixing cleansers this month by using the trader joe’s nourish cleanser (i’ve linked this to the amazon listing, but it was $4 in store, not $14) as a first cleanse (more soapy, but not stripping) and following up with the first aid beauty cleanser (more moisturizing).  they work together to perfectly wash my face and control my acne while also offering moisture and hydration.  and i just feel really clean in the best way.

mad hippie vitamin c serum // this is my second bottle of this magic potion and i really do love it.  because my acne is curing due to a variety of products i can’t necessarily say this is making that much of a difference, but i do think it makes my skin brighter, more even, and very hydrated.bb june picks2.jpggriffin remedy stimulating shampoo // i am in love with this shampoo.  truly, in love.  i’ve previously written about the pura d’or shampoo and conditioner, but i think this takes the cake in helping my hair feel healthy and strong.  if you aren’t used to sulfate-free products this might not be for you, but i love that it brings out my natural texture without feeling soft or flat.  and i really do think it’s stimulating!  i usually skip conditioner for added grit (i’m sure this is bad but whatever).

nars pro prime smudge proof eye shadow base // now this is a funny favorite because i don’t actually have it in my possession currently.  after finishing up my tube i decided to try out the wet-n-wild eye shadow primer that is supposedly a dupe for the nars.  and it is terrible!  it completely dries out my eyelids and is too smudge-proof in that it feels like the shadow is glued to my eyelids.  i cannot wait to repurchase the nars and this has shown me that i’ll suck up the price because i don’t want anything else.bb june picks3.jpgh&m jean jackets // i’ve lived in my madewell jean jacket for about 5 years now and just needed a change.  i first found this amazing washed pink jean jacket at h&m and after falling in love with the fit i searched around for a regular denim one as well.  they were pretty pricey at $49 but i’ve been living in them.  i don’t typically shop at h&m but i know i’ll have these jackets for years to come.bb june picks5.jpgeve babitz // the true los angeles queen.  i absolutely adore her style of writing and the stories she tells.  i cannot get enough!  there is a reason why we think of l.a. the way we do, and eve is why.  i’m currently finishing eve’s hollywood, absolutely adored slow days, fast company, and can’t wait to start her novels.

murder maps // a netflix show highlighting london’s nasty murderers in the 18 and 1900s.  sooo creepy and so good.  love the mix of history and horror.

won’t you be my neighbor // hands down the most beautiful movie i’ve ever seen.  needless to say i was moved to tears.  i can’t say much more than that because i really am speechless.bb june picks4.jpg. . .

the lazy girl’s guide to makeup

here on baby bohemian, i’m all about looking completely natural with a little oomph.  i’m about wearing makeup to make myself feel put together, while looking like i’m barely wearing any at all.  makeup is my me time, my hobby.  so here are my recommendations for a makeup bag that is perfect for the lazy girl, the makeup minimalist, the product junkie that doesn’t want to appear like a product junkie.  the products below could serve as a great beginner’s makeup bag or just nice products to have on hand.  with my upcoming travels, this will act as the former for me and i’m very pleased with the products that will be accompanying me on my journey…if i can keep it to just these…bb lazy girl2.jpg// skin & base //

hydrated, glowing skin is an absolute essential.  i like a very light, sheer base that evens things out ever so slightly, regardless of the condition my skin is in (currently: acne-ridden).  and to make a light base work the best, it’s all about what’s underneath.  for glowing, hydrated skin that isn’t shimmery or glittery, check out the bliss ex-glow-sion.  now this is a moisturizer more than a makeup product, so if you have dry skin like me i recommend you wear it more as a primer, but if you are on the oilier side you could use this just as your morning moisture layer.

as far as that sheer base goes, my current favorite is my tinted sunscreen, the clinique city block spf 25; a mineral spf with a perfect tint for my skintone.  this is a sunscreen with a tint, not a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, so i feel really good wearing it and like the teeny bit of coverage it gives.bb lazy girl3.jpgundereye concealer is where i differ from many: i rarely wear it.  i like a hint of darkness under the eyes, but if i ever feel too dark i always reach for the glossier stretch concealer in light.  because this is a sheer, very emollient formula it looks incredibly natural while adding the bare minimum of brightness.  i don’t find that this creases or goes greasy on me, but i’ve heard from many that setting with a powder is required.  i personally like the hydration it gives, but this is all about personal preference of course!  i also love this for areas of the face that are a little more red or angry and need a bit more help; i just purchased the medium shade for my summer skin.

a high coverage concealer is also an essential, and the nars radiant creamy is second to none.  i’ve tried others that i’ve liked, but i always back to this.  for blemishes, this is a must have.  my trick is to let it set for a minute or two before patting it in – this gets the coverage just right.  i wear vanilla for most of the year and creme brulee in the summer.

// shade & highlight //

bronzer is a non-negotiable product for me.  even if i’m wearing absolutely no makeup whatsoever, i need a hint of bronzer to make me feel alive.  i’m fair, but feel like i apply bronzer in such a way that i never look orange or over-the-top.  the trick is a fluffy brush and the right undertone.  with my pink skin, i like something that is neutral to cool and the littlest bit red; this looks the most natural on me.  my current favorite is the limited edition marc jacobs coconut bronzer, but the hourglass diffused bronze light is another item i don’t ever want to be without.bb lazy girl6.jpgblush depends on the day, but when i remember it i love it.  i go between powder and cream, preferring my powders to be matte and my creams to be sheeny.  i just found the cargo blush in catalina at tj maxx ($4.99!) and it offers the perfect hint of brightness to my face while still being subtle.  if you want to have just one blush in your makeup bag, i recommend it being a somewhat neutral one that you won’t get sick of.  the it cosmetics blush in naturally pretty ticks those boxes for my complexion.  my cream blush of choice at the moment is my olio e osso balm in 02 french melon.  very sheer but glowy, sunkissed perfection that has the same healthy effect on the lips.

to be as natural as possible, highlighters have to be creamy and glowy – no shimmer in sight.  rms is a great brand to turn to for this, and my ultimate one is the champagne rose luminizer.  this is incredibly natural on my skin because of the light nude undertone and the pink reflect.  this of course will depend on your skin tone, but look for something that gives you a sweaty shine and as little actual color as possible.  a runner up in this category is the make dew pot.

// eyes & lips //

if i’m in the mood for eye shadow, it’s typically a matte brown.  my favorite is jane iredale cappucino, but i also just snagged the too faced natural matte palette (also at tj maxx – $14) which has a nice variety of soft matte tones.  i’m glad i was able to get the original packaging – i really don’t like one they just released!  if i’m doing a shimmer, it’s usually a taupe erring on the side of brown, and man do i have a wide variety of those.  my favorite right now is the chanel ombre premiere shadow in talpa, but there is definitely no need to have such an expensive shadow.  this was a birthday splurge back in january.  curled lashes and a coat of mascara are all i really need to feel complete, but i love having a little bit of a grungy eye.

my favorite mascara is the w3ll people expressionist – it’s lengthening and natural but gives me the natural oomph i want.  most days i wiggle it through the roots of my lashes for natural-looking thickness.  the new glossier mascara looks extremely similar to this, which i find interesting, but nothing will replace this dude for me.bb lazy girl7.jpglips are another category that i like to go as simple as possible with.  i love to buy fun lipsticks – almost always matte – but actually wearing them on a daily basis is not as attainable.  i’m getting better though!  my favorite matte which is now discontinued is the nars pure matte lipstick in montego bay, but i recently picked up the l’oreal colour riche matte lipstick in matte-sterpiece and it’s that perfect peachy pink nude that’s very hard to find.  & other stories cone marshmallow is another favorite that again is difficult to find – i’m always on the hunt for a subtle peachy pink.  i mentioned the laura mercier velour extreme matte in vibe in my may picks and that is just a hair darker than the l’oreal.bb lazy girl4.jpgbb lazy girl5.jpgif i’m in the mood for a red or brighter lip, i typically opt for a stain.  the body shop lip & cheek stain in pink hibiscus is a dead-on dupe for benefit benetint, without the nasty ingredient list.  and if i want some shine the body shop gloss in sugar glaze is the only colored one lip gloss i own (it’s a soft pink sheen) – otherwise i opt for the wet n wild clear gloss.bb lazy girl1.jpget voila!  a very edited but complete makeup bag.  what are your makeup must haves?  anything i’m missing?

natural products @ sephora

bb sephora naturals1.pngsephora has always had a small edit of natural products, but they just released their “clean at sephora” mark of approval.  there is a special page dedicated to clean products and all products that are formulated without the following are given a special check mark: sulfates sls and sles, parabens, formaldehydes, formaldehyde-releasing agents, phthalates, mineral oil, retinyl palmitate, oxybenzone, coal tar, hydroquinone, triclosan, triclocarban, and less than one percent of syhnthetic fragrance if any.  in honor of this pretty exciting day, peek some of my favorite natural and available at sephora products as of late.bb sephora naturals2.pngbb natural at sephora5.jpg// rms beauty //

though rose marie is admittedly a little insane on instagram, i’m a big sucker for her little pots of goodness.  i own six of her current products and love each of them equally: the champagne rose luminizer for a deliciously dewy glow on the cheekbones and eye lids, eye polish in aura for an ethereal sheen on the lids, buriti bronzer for a sunkissed flush or warm sheeny lids, lip2cheek in vogue rose (limited edition) for a peachy pink blush that melts in perfectly with the buriti bronzer, and two of the powder swift shadows in tt-73 and em-68.  i previously owned the eye polish in myth and loved it before it stopped offering any pigment, definitely due to its age and the natural ingredients.  living luminzer is a cult classic that i have had and loved, but i definitely prefer the champagne rose luminizer with its beigey and slightly pink hint of color.  i also have two limited edition trios from rms, but they are unfortunately unavailable.

// ilia //

the ilia multistick in tenderly is a product i love for all seasons.  it’s the perfect cool pink with just a hint of peach that brightens my fair skin perfectly.  i love that this never sets and remains dewy on the skin, slightly more wet-looking than the rms lip2cheeks but in a great way.  i also used the flow-thru translucent powder last summer, but the packaging was a bit finicky so i won’t be repurchasing.

// herbivore botanicals //

i have only tried two products by herbivore, which are the rose hibiscus spray and the coco rose coconut oil body polish.  the spray is decent but nothing worth the price tag, i far prefer the heritage store rosewater and glycerin for a hydrating and refreshing rose mist for a fraction of the price of the herbivore one.  the scrub, however, is absolutely amazing!  soooo refining while also being hydrating because of the coconut oil inclusion.  i got a mini size in some sephora gift set years ago, but when i would love to purchase the full size at some point.  it’s one of those products that i can’t really justify but i know i will splurge on someday when i need a little retail therapy.bb natural at sephora3.jpg// maison louis marie //

this is perhaps the most exciting brand to be carried at sephora.  i absolutely adore the no 4 bois de balincourt perfume oil (pretty much everyone does) and it’s a great alternative to le labo santal 33.  i may even like the former over the latter; it’s a little bit more focused on the sandalwood inclusion and somehow i’m on my second bottle of this.  sephora now has their oils, perfumes, and candles!  i have heard wonderful things about all the other scents they offer as well as the one i’ve tried.

// captain blankenship //

many moons ago i tried the mermaid sea salt spray and loved it and then grew to loathe it.  the scent is very peppery and i just couldn’t handle it as i made my way to the bottom of the bottle.  still, i love this brand and really did get great results from the salt spray.  i may even try it again in the near future just to see if my tastes (read: scents) have changed.  i also want to try the new mermane shampoo and conditioner, but am waiting until sephora stocks the travel sizes.

other notable brands that are new to the sephora scene are indie lee, isle of paradise (go jules!!!!), moon juice, and antonym cosmeticsgo-to skincare is an aussie brand that is also listed on the site, which would be incredible!  i love their face hero oil.  so far the link doesn’t go anywhere, but i hope that it will be available soon.bb natural at sephora4.jpg. . .

may picks

may has simultaneously been the longest and shortest month of the year.  from finishing spring classes to starting summer ones, moving out of my first solo apartment, spending 10 days with my long distance lover, and everything else in between…i’m definitely a little worn out.  there hasn’t been much time for trying new things this month, but i always sneak a couple things in, don’t worry.  these items are my true blue faves, and those are the best ones, am i right?bb may picks.JPGpela save the waves phone case // when my beloved sonix case broke on me, i immediately knew i wanted to get a pela case to replace it.  these cases are eco-friendly, plastic free from case to packaging, compostable, and more!  i love the honesty and message behind this brand and the fact that they are serious about their mission – no greenwashing or pushing an eco image that isn’t real.  and the actual price of the cases ($39) is really no more expensive than other popular brands.  i prefer a softer, more silicone feeling case on my phone, and this is exactly that.  sturdy but soft and great for mother earth.

madewell embroidered pouch wallet // i love a good pouch wallet and i knew i had to get this one from madewell when i saw it in a promotional email.  the leather is deliciously soft and the perfect coral rust color, and the embroidered eyes are right up my alley.  nothing but love.  unfortunately this is sold out online, but it’s worth checking a local store if you have one.

the girls // this is quite simply one of my all-time favorite books.  this is the third or fourth time i’ve read it, and it just becomes more beautiful and engaging every time.  i put up a more in-depth review when i first read this a couple years ago, so if you want more details you can visit that here.

clinique city block spf 25 // i thought for sure i had mentioned this previously, but i can’t seem to find evidence of that.  in my constant search for a good mineral sunscreen, this is the absolute winner.  for a while i was hesitant to try this because it was only spf 25 and not 30 or higher, but if you try mineral sunscreens you know the struggle to find a decent one.  this has the perfect hint of color to it so there is no white cast whatsoever, it’s hydrating and fresh without being greasy or oily, it has mineral ingredients and rates a 2 on ewg, and is affordable.  i mean honestly what more can you ask for?  just note that only the spf 25 version is mineral, the spf 40 contains other chemical sunscreen ingredients.

laura mercier velour extreme matte lip in vibe // the most perfect peachy pink matte lip color ever.  the formulation of these is the matte of my dreams, maybe even better than nars.  i’ve been wearing this to class most days to perk up my tired ass face from long nights with boyfriend if you know what i mean 😉 thanks laura mercier for letting me have a love life without looking like a goblin!  plus i’m a total sucker for the name.  like who can say their favorite lip products are called vibe and stardust?  this hippie!

and as more of an update…

sephora vib sale items // these are all still going strong, minus the marc jacobs lipstick that i returned.  nothing really to report, they are all super solid products that i’m glad i invested in, especially the marc jacobs coconut bronzer and rms champagne rose luminizer which i’m loving on the eyes as well as cheekbones.  the milk makeup kush mascara is excellent, i just haven’t found myself wearing mascara very much this month.  but for nights out, yes yes yes.

april picks

as far as makeup and skincare go, not much has changed from last month.  the pacifica coconut essence spray is still a strong favorite.  i’ve been adding it more to my skincare routine as well, and it truly gives my skin so much juice.  i’m way over half way through my bottle and it’s been sold out at my ulta, so i’m a little panicked.  i need to stock up.

all of the items i bought during the sephora vib sale and my sneaky marc jacobs order are firm favorites and i am so pleased with them all.  i ended up returning the marc jacobs lipstick, but the coconut bronzer, milk makeup kush mascara, and rms champagne rose luminizer are all epically amazing (these are the products i got that i had never tried before).  if you are considering the kush mascara especially, CHECK IT OUT.  it is somehow insanely but naturally volumizing, lengthening, defining, softening, hydrating, amplifying, etc etc.  truly the perfect mascara and it’s fun to have something different from my w3ll people mascara that is uber natural looking.bb april picks1.jpg

though i was enjoying the paula’s choice 2% bha, i ultimately decided to start using my acne creams again, which are aczone and differin.  my skin has passed the painful drying stage, so i’m hoping to start seeing results soon.

because of my current skin state, i’ve just been using a ton of moisturizer and concealer, with my concealer of choice being the bare minerals bare pro concealer.  i’ve been using this for a couple months now but have not mentioned it until now (i don’t think).  this is an insanely high coverage yet hydrating and not drying concealer.  i use it on blemishes, but because of the consistency it would work absolutely anywhere.  i started with the shade 01 which fits my pale winter skin perfectly, and i also got the shade 04 to mix it with/use for summer.  04 is actually lighter than 03, so just a heads up if you are considering either of those shades.  all in all another wonderful product from bare minerals – truly one of my favorite and most relied on brands.  and of course i always have the nars radiant creamy concealer in vanilla on hand and if i’m in a rush.

after concealer i’ll pop on some bronzer (always) and blush (sometimes).  i’m still loving my hourglass diffused light bronzer which i’ve been using for over a year now, with no end in sight, but the marc jacobs coconut bronzer has taken its place as of late.  as for blush it depends on the day, but the it cosmetics bye bye pores blush in naturally pretty (another one i’ve been using for months but don’t think i’ve mentioned) is a reliable, every day, don’t have to think about it shade.bb april picks2.jpgsome products that i haven’t mentioned yet on the blog and have been loving for quite a while now are the & other stories items i bought while in california.  the biggest love is the chubby lip pencil in cone marshmallow, which i had wanted to order on line for months before seeing it in the store on sale!  i love it so much i ordered a backup to because the shade comes and goes online.  it’s a lovely peachy nude and i’ve been wearing it more often than not even though i’m not a day to day lipstick lover.  i also purchased the lip and cheek tint in dimple peach, which i think i mentioned as being a more cream-to-power dupe for rms vogue rose.

and the last thing i got is the nacre ecru eye shadow quad which is soooooo amazing and my first thought was that it looked a bit like the tom ford nude dip.  these shades are so me and i love them all as a light wash over the lid.  the shades are shiny instead of sparkly which is always what i look for.  this is probably the only eye shadow thing i will bring when i move to arizona later this summer (more on that soon).  i’ve been in & other stories a couple of times before in new york especially, but this is the first time i purchased anything from their makeup line.  the prices are great and the products are fun, so i recommend checking their website or going in store if you can!  i can’t wait until i can get there again; they have a ton more products in store.

oh!  and essie bikini so teeny has been living on my nails. bb april picks3.jpg

it was a funny month as i was back in classes but only a few times a week.  it’s been nice because i am able to focus on other things, mainly working out, getting my apartment in order before i move, reading, writing, etc.  my traveler’s notebook is still a constant companion, of course, and i’ve added another notebook and a little clear folder to the mix for extra organization.

in terms of books, i have a school favorite and a real life favorite.  i had to read the teacher wars by dana goldstein for school, but it was incredible and i read the whole thing in 2 days.  if you are an educator or just interested in education in america, this is a must read.  the education system in this country is not perfect, but this gives a beautiful overview of our history and really gets you thinking about where we are going and where we have been.  exceptionally crafted.bb april picks4.jpgfor personal reading, i absolutely gobbled up big magic by elizabeth gilbert.  this book has been on my radar for years, but i finally decided to pick it up a couple weeks ago.  i do consider myself a creative person, and consider the field of teaching to be a creative one that is tied to so much else, so i found big magic incredibly inspiring.  my hobbies are also creative ones, i.e. this blog and writing, and big magic felt like a handbook for cherishing your creative passions.  i am never going to make my life’s work out of one of these hobbies, but i do them for me, and that is more than enough.  i would really like tor read eat pray love now because i love her voice so very much.

and perhaps the most exciting favorite of the month is isle of dogs.  ooh how i love me some wes anderson.  i even got this book for christmas a few years back!  when this movie began i wasn’t quite sure where it was going but it came together beautifully and i might even go see it again.  if you like wes or dogs or stop motion, you need to see this.

kodachrome was a movie i happened upon on netflix, without realizing it had just been released a few days earlier.  i was of course drawn to it by the name mostly, and also because i really like elizabeth olsen.  it was such a sweet film and left me in tears of love.  not groundbreaking or particularly iconic, but lovely all the same.  sometimes those are my favorite kind.

and because there is always a new youtube favorite around here – i am absolutely obsessed with manny mua.  he is truly hysterical but intelligent and witty and a pleasure to watch.  i love that he focuses purely on makeup videos and is always insanely entertaining.  he won’t be to everyone’s taste, but i absolutely love how over-the-top and true to himself he is.

the sephora sale: what i actually bought

my sephora purchases arrived!  i’m so happy with my service this time around, especially compared to my drama in the fall.  these are all first impressions, but honestly these products are pretty epic.  i killed it.  no shame!  also important to note, i had a pretty hefty sephora merch credit from some returns i had made, so that allowed me to be able to buy the last product (and perhaps the most exciting) mentioned here…bb sephora sale1.jpgbb sephora sale2.jpg

rms champagne rose luminizer, $38 // somehow i forgot to include this in my sephora sale wishlist, when it was actually the product i was wanting the most.  though i did enjoy it, i no longer have the rms living luminizer.  it just wasn’t exactly what i wanted in a highlighter and i didn’t find myself reaching for it often enough to to justify keeping it around.  the champagne rose luminizer, on the other hand, is THE perfect thing – it isn’t stark white but rather a creamy pink that looks perfectly subtle and glowy on my fair skin and somewhat tan summer skin in the future.  though this does have a slight pinky reflect, it works perfectly with my pink undertones and the overall color of the product keeps it insanely natural.  this is maybe even glossier than the living luminizer and i super love it.bb sephora sale5.jpgbb sephora sale3.jpgbb sephora sale4.jpghourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light, mini $22 // boring purchase but i wanted this back in my life!  i decided to go with the mini size even though it is kind of a rip off for the price/amount of product vs the full size.  i like my mineral fusion powder, but i always want it both at home and while i’m out and about, so this will be good for that purpose as well.bb sephora sale8.jpgbb sephora sale7.jpgbb sephora sale6.jpgmilk makeup kush mascara, $24 // i’m not really a girl to try out a bunch of different mascaras, and i am still in love with my w3ll people one.  but something about this milk makeup kush mascara just seemed fun?!  i don’t honestly know, i just really wanted to try it, and having a more natural (ingredients-wise) but volumizing mascara seemed like something i would like to have around.  and this mascara is INSANE.  one swipe onto my lashes and they had amazing volume and length and honestly looked fake.  if it doesn’t crumble, it will be exactly what i wanted the too faced better than sex to be like.  the packaging is awesome while a little too big for my taste, but i so appreciate milk’s aesthetic and style.  glad i went out of my comfort zone!bb sephora sale9.jpgmarc jacobs le marc lip creme lipstick in cream and sugar, $30 // this is the exact nude i have been searching for.  it is the perfect balance of pink, peach, and brown while appearing super natural.  at first i was worried it was slightly too light for me, but it’s incredibly flattering given the way that i apply all lipstick – blotted and really blended into the lip.  i’m not 100% sold on this, but i think i’m going to keep it!  editor’s note: i have since returned this…it was just too expensive to justify if i wasn’t completely in love!bb sephora sale10.jpgnails inc nail kale base coat, $15 // this was purely a repurchase.  this is my all time favorite base coat and i have not used anything else since i purchased about 2 years ago.  if you do your nails at home and need something reliable, i very much recommend this product.

now this wasn’t in the sale, but i got it around the same time…bb sephora sale11.jpgbb sephora sale12.jpgmarc jacobs tan-tastic bronzer, $49 // !!!!!!!! it FINALLY came back just a few days ago (i was afraid i missed out forever) and it is just as deliciously dreamy as it appears online.  the perfect balance of warm and cool, this shade and texture is exactly what i look for in a bronzer.  now i bought this from the marc jacobs website, and they offer a 10% discount for first time subscribers, plus free shipping and no tax.  so all in all it cost me $44, which is far cheaper than it would have been even with the sephora vib sale.  so if you are upset you have to pay full price now that the sale is over, fear not!

ok, i’m never shopping for beauty products again.  done!  bye!

march picks

bb march picks3.jpg// makeup & skincare //

pacifica coconut essence hydro mist // soooo hydrating and leaves the skin insanely dewy.  like more than tatcha dewy skin mist.  the skin just feels and looks ridiculously healthy.  did i mention it’s $10? plus it’s pacifica, so the ingredients are reliable and pretty darn good.bb march picks5.jpgw3ll people mascara // i mentioned this mascara in my first picks of the year, but at that time i was still using a small sample size.  sometimes i find that full size products differ from their miniature counterparts, but in this case the full size is just as good if not better.  length and volume in a beautifully natural way.

glossier perfecting skin tint in medium // this is always a product i have somewhere and go back to time and again.  even when my skin is at its worst, i love this product.  it evens the skin out just the tiniest touch while looking like glowy nothingness.  i’m using the shade medium since i got the tiniest tan while in california, but i use light or a mix of light and medium in the winter.bb march picks2.jpgmychelle sun shield liquid tint in nude // finally a lightweight, non-white mineral sunscreen.  this shade is a little dark for me now, so it will be perfect over the summer when i get more color.  for now, i love mixing it with my bare minerals complexion rescue in opal if i want more coverage than the glossier skin tint and since my skin is a little sunkissed from california.  they are a perfect mix with a great dewy, hydrated finish.  i think they just realized an untinted version as well.bb march picks1.jpgneutrogena grapefruit body clear // since going off birth control i’ve had some pretty big breakouts on my chest and back.  and the best product for clearing up the body is hands-down this neutrogena body wash.  i’ve been using this since high school and it never fails.  this did have microbeads in it forever and it still has some sort of bead, but i think it’s safer for the environment now…not 100% sure on this.bb march picks4.jpg// etc //

slouching towards bethlehem, joan didion // i am finally delving into joan didion’s works (honestly where have i been?) and am absolutely in love with her.  surprise, surprise!  more to come, but slouching towards bethlehem is a collection of her short stories, most revolving around california during the 60s and 70s.  delicious, truly.bb march picks6.jpglove season 3 // i really enjoyed seasons 1 & 2 of love, but at the same time wasn’t 100% sure.  but when season 3 came around, my love (hehe) for the show really solidified.  they did such an incredible job with the final season – it was truly the perfect wrap up.  and the last episode?  are you kidding?  all the heart eye emojis.

eye buy direct ethereal glasses // my sister told me about eye buy direct, and how affordable and cool their sunglasses are.  i tried to not buy these, but ultimately couldn’t resist.  i originally got polarized lenses but they bothered by eyes, so the company kindly switched the lenses to normal ones, for just the $6 shipping cost (plus a refund for the special lenses).  pretty great customer service and i love knowing these were made especially for me.  mine are the ethereal glasses in champagne with green lenses.bb march picks8.jpgbb march picks7.jpg

february picks

it was an extremely busy month for me, so not a ton of picks but the ones i do have are even more special and reliable.  this month was about keeping myself sane and healthy, which for the most part i did a good job of, minus the fact that i’m currently in bed with strep throat!  what were your favorites for the month of february?bbfebpicks5.jpg// skincare //

origins original skin retexturizing mask // this is a beautiful exfoliating mask with a base of rose clay, which is a gentle way to draw impurities out of the skin.  when you wash this mask off, you also get a very gentle physical exfoliating effect thanks to jojoba beads included in the mask.  this mask never makes my dry skin feel too dry or tight, just cleansed and purified.  highly recommend at least trying a sample – it’s the best clay mask i’ve ever used.bbfebpicks4.jpgpaula’s choice skin perfecting 2% bha toner // after struggling with my skin for the past 6 months, my dermatologist recommended me to add an antibiotic and differin cream onto the aczone cream that i already use.  and i decided that i just didn’t want to do it.  the creams are so drying on my already dry skin and i always react poorly to them for months.  after some hefty research, i decided to try the pc 2% bha toner which is great for clogged pores especially.  and after using it for 2 straight weeks, i am finally over the purging period and i am so impressed.  my skin isn’t perfect, but it is so much better and any pimple that i get clears up quickly and leaves much less pigmentation than usually.  all of this combined with the fact that i also went off birth control recently, this toner is a keeper for sure.  it’s also not drying!  at all!

// extras //

aesop resurrection hand balm // this hand cream deserves all the hype around it as well as the hefty price tag ($27).  it sinks into the skin almost immediately, leaving no grease or residue on the hands.  pretty sure this has single handedly saved my dry, overwashed hands this winter.  it is expensive, but absolutely worth it – and not even as or more expensive than some hand creams on the market, if that makes sense.  plus it smells delicious – a beautiful mix of woods and citrus that fades quickly.bbfebpicks3.jpgdedcool fragrance 02 // after wanting to try this dedcool fragrance for at least 6 months now, i finally bit the bullet just after the new year.  and i say this fragrance, because i knew that it was the exact one of the bunch that i would enjoy – mainly because it’s mostly sandalwood.  the inclusion of juniper is so gorgeous and very unique.  i can truly say this fragrance is like nothing i’ve ever tried or smelled before and i am absolutely in love with it.  it sits very close to the skin and settles to a warm, light sandalwood base.  dedcool is very nicely priced for fragrance ($70 for 50ml), nontoxic, vegan, and unisex.  according to the brand, “02 embodies the dark aroma of juniper mixed with green floral and sandalwood. This scent balances femininity with masculinity” and “intermingles rich hues of sandalwood and juniper berries to craft the unflawed musky blend of gender neutrality.”  of all the sandalwood fragrances that i own and love, this is the best of the bunch.  also, i got this at neiman marcus combined with a 15% off coupon they had for signing up for emails!

pura d’or shampoo // as i mentioned, i recently went off birth control, and i think that this caused my hair to start falling out.  now it really wasn’t bad at all and i managed to not panic too much, but i was still worried.  my sister recommended this shampoo and i love it!  not only has it helped the fall out (could also be that my body adjusted to the lack of extra hormones), but i love how it makes my hair feel.  it is sulfate-free and natural (?).  even if it didn’t help protect my hair against breakage and fall out, i would still love and recommend this.bbfebpicks2.jpg// entertainment //

girls season one // i absolutely adored girls when the first season was released.  the rest of the seasons just didn’t do it for me, but the first one is just as hysterical and well-written as ever.  highly recommend rewatching the first season whether you completed the series or not!

matilda on youtube // simple, to the point, and delightfully australian.  i just love her!  i find myself watching and rewatching her videos whenever i’m on youtube – also just having them on as background noise.  she shares my deep love for olio e osso balms, so really i don’t need to say anymore than that!bbfebpicks6.jpgbbfebpicks1.jpg

rms x3 x2

bb rms trios4.jpgover the holidays – yes way back them – rms came out with two trios.  there was an eye trio available exclusively at anthropologie and a lip and cheek trio available exclusively at free people.  anthropologie’s trio was of plummy and gold eye polishes, which are probably my favorite product from rms.  the palette featured the shades reflect, solar, and magnetic, none of which i have tried previously.  free people’s trio was of red and pink lip2cheeks and lip shines in kissable, modest, and illusive, and also came with the rms blush brush, a makeup bag, and 2 rms makeup removers. bb rms trios1.jpgbb rms trios2.jpg my sis got me the anthropologie eye trio for christmas and i purchased the free people set for $16.  YES you read that right – i was able to get a full size blush brush and three lip and cheek shades for $16.  i can’t find these products online, but i’m sure they will pop up on ebay or poshmark soon!  i’m so pleased that i was able to grab these partly for their adorableness, partly to try new things, and partly because i was really wanting that blush brush.  love when things work out! bb rms trios3.jpgbb rms trios5.jpg

the student teaching essentials

i’ve mentioned here and there that i am now student teaching full time…and that requires a lot of supplies, let me tell you.  aside from all the actual classroom essentials, which include the catcher in the rye, my notebook, and my school laptop, i like to have a whole set of items and products that i may need.  it sounds like a lot and it sounds extreme, but i find i feel so much more confident when i feel prepared and like i have all the supplies i could ever possibly need.

has anyone ever read the children’s book, chrysanthemum?  well chrysanthemum is a little mouse that is teased at school because of her name.  to combat this, she fills her favorite jacket with all her most prized possessions to give her extra confidence.  and this is EXACTLY what i do too.bb student tch1.jpg makeup items //

bare minerals perfecting veil powder with elf retractable brush // i always carry this bare minerals powder (discontinued) that my sister gave me with my handy dandy elf brush.  i will also occasionally throw in my mineral fusion pressed powder as well, if i feel like i need a little more coverage throughout the day.  i don’t always use a powder, but i have found that something about the school environment/air/lights make me feel a lot oilier than usual.bb student tch5.jpgspot concealer // i keep my sephora concealer in 03 meringue in my bag ALWAYS.  you just never know, ok!  i’ll occasionally pop my nars creamy concealer in there too if i really need it.

mini tweezerman tweezers // you truly never know when you will need tweezers.  a stray nose hair, a makeup brush hair that won’t get off your face, a splinter…you feel me.

maybelline brow brush // i aaaalways need a little brow brush up.

clarins instant light lip comfort oil in honey // this is the lip product that has been on my lips for the past 2 months straight.  it looks like a gloss but feels like a balm and honey is the perfect, almost-clear shade.  it makes me feel put together but also hydrates the lips beautifully.  i transfer this from pocket to pocket and purse to purse, but right now it’s living at school with me.bb student tch4.jpgkorres lip butter in jasmine // another balm that gives me more oomph than just a balm does.  i love the light nudey pink shade of this and it’s one of my all time favorite lip products.  you know i love a lip product that lightens the lips just a teensy bit.  i just wish it wasn’t in a pot because i only use it right after i’ve washed my hands.

sephora coconut lip balm // my mom and i both looove this balm!  it smells amazing and feels amazing.  need i say more?  great simple balm that i always have around somewhere.

super old sephora mirror compact // for when i don’t feel like whipping out my powder.

daily essentials // bb student tch3.jpghand sanitizer // currently using bronner’s.  i don’t know how anyone can work in a school, or really anywhere, without a good hand sanitizer.  life essential, people.  i also carry wet ones hand wipes with me for more serious situations!

hand lotion // my lotion of choice is a travel size gold bond.  99 cents at target.  yes.  it can also double as a face cream if necessary as it’s not exclusively a hand cream.

hair clips and twisties // duuuuhhhhh!

mouthwash // DUH!  as a teacher i am super aware of my coffee breath.  mouthwash is an absolute non-negotiable.

the extras that i don’t really use but like to have //

tide to go, lint brush, bandaids, lactaid, imodium, tissues // every single one of these products shows you who i really am.  don’t believe what instagram shows you.  i am a grandma.bb student tch2.jpgso i know this sounds like an absolute load of products, but all my essentials fit into a glossier pink pouch and my makeup items fit into a very small mac travel bag.  i leave everything in my backpack/school bag so i don’t have to think about anything until i need it!

am i missing anything?  what products do you keep with you on a daily basis?
