remember me?!

oh hi!  remember me?!?!  i mentioned a little bit about my current wifi situation on instagram, but let me go into a little more detail.  i am currently finishing my master’s degree by teaching on the navajo reservation in arizona. so far it’s going really really well, and the only hiccup is that i don’t have wifi in my room (i’m living in the dorm attached to the high school with other students).  i’ve been able to pick up wifi here and there, and a kind teacher told me i can pop by his place whenever i need to use the internet, so hopefully i will be able to start posting again. i did start another blog to record my journey, mostly for family and school purposes, but feel free to follow me over there as well if you’re interested: leahgoeswest.wordpress.com (though again, it’s been difficult for me to post).IMG_3377  truly this experience has already been pretty incredible, and though not everything has been smooth, nor will it be in its entirety, i’m so excited to be on this adventure that i’ve been planning for a long time.  if anyone has any suggestions of things i need to see/places i need to go while i’m in the southwest, please let me know!! i want to go any and everywhere.  i’m currently spending labor day weekend in durango, colorado and don’t ever want to leave this state so that’s a new development!IMG_3407 i have a very limited selection of “things” with me – makeup, skincare, clothes, accessories – so i thought it might be fun to look at the things that i’m missing the most. nothing like being separated from your belongings for 4 months to show you what you really love.

// s t y l e //

coach duffle bag // i have mentioned this bag before on the blog, but this is my favorite purse of any that i own.  it’s a vintage (i think 70s) black leather coach duffle, which is one of their most iconic shapes.  it’s essentially a big bucket bag with an adjustable strap – so i either wear it close to my underarm or even crossbody if it’s extra heavy.  it’s such a classic shape and style and fits my everyday life. i miss you bb! i’m sorry i couldn’t bring you!

baggy levi’s 501s // i have a bunch of levi’s but i only brought my 501 skinnies.  my baggy ones are perfectly soft, worn in, and ripped, and i love that they’re slightly cropped (i cut them myself naturally) and slightly too big.  i love them for every season, with sneakers, with birks, with army boots.  i actually thought that i packed them, but apparently not!  i have no clue what wash i have, but i linked a similar looking pair.

black skinny strap rainbows // i absolutely live in my black rainbows all summer long (and every pair of rainbows i’ve ever had since 7th grade).  i didn’t bring them in favor of my birks, but i wish i had these just for simplicity’s sake.  i do find myself wearing socks with birkenstocks quite a bit these days, which is probably not a habit i should get into!!!!

cape cod bracelets // i love my two little silver bangles with silver or gold screw balls.  is anyone else familiar with these?  i usually wear them during the summer and then phase them out come fall, but i didn’t do that this year and i don’t have them with me.  i go through phases of wearing a lot of necklaces or a lot of bracelets, and right now i’m forgoing both to be simple and under-the-radar.  no fun!bb feather // b e a u t y //

igk 1995 shampoo // i’m in love with this texturing shampoo.  it just wasn’t feasible for me to bring something so particular and that i don’t use every time i wash my hair, but this is my favorite texturing shampoo of the few i’ve tried.  the r+co cactus shampoo is my second in command, but the 1995 is just a little grittier.

dedcool fragrance 02 // i don’t wear perfume enough to justify bringing it (i just brought my usual sandalwood fragrance oil), but i really miss this scent.  it’s one of those that just melts into your skin and seems like what you actually smell like, a little bit woodsy and masculine, a little bit clean, a little bit warm.  sandalwood is my favorite scent of all time, and that is the base of 02 with something extra.IMG_3349bb dorm. . .

a brief note & insta roundup

my bohemians!  i’m sorry i have been so absent on the blog and instagram.  a brief explanation…i’m back in summer school after only 3 days off, i moved out of my apartment and am living with my sister, brother-in-law, and their dog baby, my long distance lover is back in town, and i can’t find a good set up for taking pictures.  alllllll of that being said, i will be back in action asap and better than ever (let’s hope)!

big love to you all & happy sunday!  and in the mean time, here are some recent instagram snaps if you need a little catch-up. bb insta1.pngbb insta2.pngbb insta3.pngbb insta6.pngbb insta5.pngbb insta4.pngbb insta7.pngbb insta8.pngbb insta9.png. . .

talkin’ trash 03

i do these posts very sporadically – sometimes i feel like saving my garbage and sometimes i don’t, frankly!  i would have preferred to keep going because i’m going through some interesting products, but your girl is moving and no one has time to move trash from place to place.  though you could argue that about most of my knick knacks *insert crying laughing emoji* BUT on to the products!

// body items //bb empties3 1.jpgthe burt’s bees citrus & ginger body wash was a really nice body wash that smelled absolutely incredible.  i’m a sucker for all things grapefruit.  this was kind of a mix between an oil and a soap that was very lightweight and nicely cleansing.  i mostly use a castille bar soap in the shower, but i wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again if i was in the mood for a body wash.

i originally purchased the everyday oil 2 oz to use as a face cleanser and oil, but the essential oils in it were a little too strong for my skin.  i used it up by mixing it with the skin trip lotion and it was an amazing body combination.  everyday oil recently released an unscented blend so i am very interested in purchasing that one in the 8 oz size to use for body and face this time.bb empties3 2.jpgthe primal pit paste in jasmine is my absolute favorite natural deodorant so i have already repurchased this in both stick and jar form.  i prefer this to schmidt’s because it doesn’t seem to leave any stains on my clothes.

the mountain ocean coconut skin trip has been mentioned a million and one times over here, but it is an excellent lightweight body moisturizer.  it smells amazing and is perfect alone for summer or mixed with an oil for winter.  i am currently using a shea moisture body lotion i got at tj maxx, but i will always repurchase the skin trip.

// skincare items, especially sprays and cleansers //bb empties3 3.jpgthe heritage store rosewater & glycerin is my favorite hydrating mist/toner.  i always have one of these lying around – or, more accurately, sitting in the fridge.  i love the inclusion of glycerin in this for extra oomph, but the plain rosewater version is beautiful too.  just a basic, effective product that is a staple for me.

similar to the heritage store rosewater & glycerin is the herbivore botanicals rose hibiscus coconut mist. now i got this in the birchbox x vogue 125th anniversary box last year, but i have since purchased the 2 oz size for travel.  i don’t think this does enough to really merit the price tag ($32 for 4 oz), but it is a beautiful product if you want a skincare splurge.  i would repurchase this, but it’s not the end all-be all in my opinion.

the pai rosehip bioregenerate oil is a really lovely rosehip oil that i used primarily in the winter.  this was nice because it was thick, but not too thick, so it didn’t feel too heavy to use during the day as well as the night.  the price point ($40) is excellent and i would definitely repurchase this when next winter rolls around.

one of the best mineral sunscreens i have found is the clinique mineral spf 30 sunscreen. it’s lightweight, hydrating, doesn’t leave a white cast, and is easy to find.  the only complaint is the small size (1 oz for $28), but for a good sunscreen i don’t think that’s too bad.  i am currently enjoying the clinique city block spf 25, but i will definitely repurchase this dude in the future.bb empties3 4.jpgthe mad hippie eye cream lasted me absolutely forever – over a full year.  this was a great eye cream for hydration and plumping – i don’t suffer from bad dark circles so i can’t speak to its abilities in that area.  i love the mad hippie brand and this was another excellent product from the line.  i am currently using an acure eye cream i got at tj maxx, but i would definitely repurchase this in the future.

the trilogy make-up be gone cleansing balm is another product that lasted me aaaages.  it’s not the only balm cleanser i’ve tried, but the only one i want to use.  simple, but very effective.  trilogy is another brand that i trust for natural products with great ingredients – though they do use a lot of essential oils, so that’s just something to be aware of.  will definitely repurchase next winter.   bb empties3 8.jpgthe glossier milky jelly cleanser is a product that i keep coming back to.  it’s not the best cleanser out there, but i do enjoy it.  the rose scent can be a bit much, but i like the texture and that it doesn’t dry out my skin.  it’s not the best cleanser i’ve ever tried, but i’m sure i will come back to it again in the future.bb empties3 7.jpgi went through the mad hippie cream cleanser really quickly – too quickly.  it was a great cleanser that reminded me a lot of the first aid beauty cleanser that i love.  the packaging made me extremely nervous because it’s class, and i was mostly using this in the shower.  if you are looking for a cream cleanser this is a very solid option that is hydrating but not too creamy, if that makes sense.  i will definitely repurchase this next winter when my skincare routine needs a bit of oomph.

// masks and extras //

the glossier moisturizing moon mask is one i almost always have lying around, at least until i discovered the next empty on this list.  it’s a great hydrating mask that makes the skin feel plump and glowing.  plus, i keep the containers around for holding cotton pads and other items for travel!  i don’t think i will repurchase this because i have found something i like better, but i still recommend it.  bb empties3 6.jpgthe bioderma sensibio mask is VERY clearly well-loved – i have never cut a product in half to get all the leftover product!  it’s like the glossier moon mask but so much more hydrating and never stings my skin when i’m dry (the glossier does do that to me occasionally).  i like everything about this mask, from the texture to the easy tube.  if you are trying to decide between this and glossier, i would go with the bioderma, but the glossier is still a great option.  this one just seems to have more lasting hydrating and soothing effects.

the nails inc nailkale superfood base coat was one of the items i purchased in the sephora vib sale this month.  it’s the best base coat i’ve ever tried and worth the higher price tag.  i pretty much only buy this when the sephora sale comes around and the bottle lasts me a full year or two.  this continued to work perfectly even as i made my way to the bottom of the bottle.   bb empties3 5.jpgand finally, i also finished a bottle of seche CLEAR.  and no, i didn’t totally finish it, but it got to a point where i needed a new one – if you wear nail polish you know what i mean.  very funny story – for the entire year or so i’ve had this i thought it was seche vite and didn’t think about the fact that it wasn’t fast drying.  i only noticed about a week ago when my sister pointed it out that her nails weren’t drying very quickly! hahaha!

wheewww it feels good to throw all this garbage out!  i completely dig these posts and videos as it shows what people actually use up and love – and that’s pretty rare in these days of insane overconsumption.  i can’t promise to always keep my trash around, but i will try to continue to save any interesting things i finish up!  what have you finished up recently?  is it something you can’t live with out?  let me know in the comments!

the sephora sale wishlist

let’s hope this sale goes better than the one in the fall

hourglass ambient lighting powder in dim light, mini $22 // i’m not a powder girl on most days, but with summer coming and my penchant for dewy skin i need a little more help in the setting department.  i usually use a powder foundation for this purpose, but have been wanting dim light for years and years.  i’m going for the mini as i know i would never make my way through the full size, even though the mini is a fraction of the product for half the price.  maybe i’ll change my mind on the size when the sale comes around…

stila stay all day waterproof eyeliner micro tip, $22 // i am sooo not an eyeliner girl, but every now and then i want to try it out in a very subtle way.  i saw that stila just came out with their cult eyeliner with a super fine little micro tip and that is right up my alley.  what better time to try it out than with an extra 15% off?  i would prefer a brown eyeliner, but i think it would be nice to have one black eyeliner in my makeup bag.

clarins beauty flash balm, $48 // this is one of my sister’s all time favorite, repurchased items and it has been on the back of my mind for months.  it seems to be quite similar to my beloved first aid beauty coconut primer and bliss ex-glow-sion, but i want to try this cult fave just for fun.

marc jacobs le marc lip creme lipstick in cream and sugar, $30 // i have read a ton of good things about this new marc jacobs lipstick shade.  it seems to be the perfect peachy pink nude for us lighter skinned kids.

if this is all news to you (i doubt it), the sephora sale for vib rouge starts today and for us lesser folks next week on the 20th.  what’s on your wishlist?
