makeup for a minimalist: shimmery summer eyes

even a makeup minimalist like me likes a little shimmer sometimes, especially when i have a tan and the weather is warm.  here are my go to eye products when i want an easy, subtle shimmer look.

josie maran watercolor eyeshadow in rio de rose gold – this is such a beautiful product. it can be blended out to be more or less opaque depending on the look you want.  just work quickly as this sets almost instantly!  i also love the cooling effect when applied.

rms living luminizer – i love this on my eyes!  it is a pearly white that disappears on the lids, leaving a hint of shimmer behind, as well a sort of wet effect.

laura mercier metallic creme eye color in gold – ok the packaging of these is ridiculously cute – like mini paint tubes!  i love the color of this creme eyeshadow; it’s gold but not too gold.  a little goes a looong way and, like the josie maran, this can be blended out to the desired effect.

laura mercier caviar stick eye color in amethyst – i wear this all year long and the color is gorgeous.  it’s a purple-y, taupe-y neutral that looks beautiful all over the lid and smudged in the lower lash line.  i really want to get this in either the rose gold or moonlight shades for something really neutral.

no 7 stay perfect shade and define in cool mink – i have a few of these in various colors but cool mink is my favorite. it’s basically the laura mercier in amethyst, but with a hint more brown.  cool mink is a perfect way to describe this one.

mac all that glitters – another light golden shimmer with a little bit of pink running through.  even though i like to wear cream eyeshadows in the summer months, this shade can’t be left out!

urban decay primer potion in minor sin – this is a weird one because it is an eyeshadow/eyelid primer but it has a beautiful shimmer to it!  it looks more full on when swatched, but when blended out i think it’s most comparable to the rms living luminizer in that there isn’t a real color, but it deposits a little bit of shimmer and leaves the lid looking natural.  this is also what i put on under most of these shadows to make sure they stick around (when i remember…)

i apply all of these with their applicators or with my fingers, and then blend with clean fingers or a blending brush. i like the mac 217, sephora classic crease brush #73, and the bobbi brown eye blender brush (i use this one after i’ve already blended with another tool to make sure everything is really seamless).
