sometimes you fall in love with a product, the product is discontinued or has bad ingredients, and you find yourself on an endless search for a good dupe. and then you find one dupe, next to another dupe, next to ANOTHER DUPE!
the land of the even better dupes is the land of the laura mercier velour extreme matte lipstick.the original dupe that i was on the search for was a replacement for my beloved nars pure matte lipstick in montego bay. nars, for some ludicrous reason, decided to discontinue the best matte lipstick of all time. and this color, the perfect peachy pink, was difficult to find a replacement for. a few weeks after purchasing the laura mercier velour extreme matte lipstick in vibe, i realized that it is a spot-on SPOT-ON dupe for montego bay. and might i say i like the formula even better?!
i then found myself, naturally, looking at the other shades in the line. the beautiful blue-red dominate is a perfect dupe, and even better formula in my opinion, for nars velvet matte lip pencil in dragon girl. the nars pencils contain parabens, so i no longer use them, and i actually find the texture a little too silicone-heavy. the ingredients in the laura mercier pencils are by no means clean, but they don’t have some of the bigger nasties that i look out for.shown here: nars montego bay, laura mercier vibe, laura mercier dominate // vibe is showing up slightly more pink than montego bay, but in real life they do look almost identical
now this next color is one that i don’t own yet, but want to. it’s the color clique, which is a perfect dupe for, you guessed it, the nars velvet matte lip pencil in famous red, a coral red that’s perfect for a summer night.
i agree it’s a little strange that the laura mercier range has so many nars dupes, but you won’t find any complaints here. i can’t wait to dabble in the deeper shades for fall and winter – i bet there’s a dupe for nars velvet matte in damned somewhere in there. oh plus the packaging is soooo much better than the nars velvet mattes. if you own those little suckers you know exactly what i mean!

i cannot resist milk makeup. i just think it’s so cool and innovative, and i love their message of makeup for all people of all styles, not just girly girls or whatever. i have gotten all of these products from urban outfitters online (not all at once!) but they also are available at sephora and birchbox. i like ordering from urban because it’s so fast and they have some pretty cool collaboration products as well.
for lips, i love the lip pigment swear by peachy nude and lip color in c.r.e.a.m. rosey nude, which i’ve discussed over here, so i won’t go on and on. they are the perfect matte lip products and the textures of each are different but great. the lip salve rosé is an urban outfitters exclusive product and it is awesome! it’s a lip balm but offers a bit of a holographic sheen, so i love wearing this during the day and at night. it’s moisturizing and all that, but with a little something that your every day lip balm doesn’t have.
for the face, i have only tried the matte bronzer baked but it’s a gorgeous cream bronzer. again, i mentioned this over here, so i won’t go too in depth, but it’s the perfect bronzer shade, kinda warm but not too much. it is a cream to powder formula and features milk melt technology, meaning it melts into your skin immediately on contact. i especially love this bronzer in the summer time, but i know i’ll still be able to use it in the winter, which is impressive cause i get pretty pale.
for skincare, the urban defense mask is my newest purchase. it’s another urban outfitters exclusive, and it’s a gel mask that washes away into a lotion. it’s both moisturizing and skin clearing, and is extremely gentle. you leave it on for 3-5 minutes and then mix with water, rubbing it in sort of as a lotion and washing off the rest. it comes in a huge tub and you don’t need much at all, so this $36 is going to go a looong way!
do you have any other milk makeup recommendations for me?

if it’s a matte lip, i love it. mostly because you can forget you have anything on your lips and they still (usually) look good by the end of the day/night. i am a nars velvet matte lip pencil fiend (only one of my shades is pictured here), but i just got my first bite beauty matte creme lip crayon and i’m sensing a new obsession.
nars velvet mattes: i own the shades damned, cruella, dragon girl, dolce vita, and sex machine. pictured above is sex machine because a) i’m away from home for the summer and it’s sadly the only one i brought and b) it’s the one i like the most for summer. it’s a beautiful light pink with a hint of dustiness that’s perfect for every day if you want, or paired with a bolder eye look at night. a must have for me.
bite beauty matte creme lip crayon in sucre: this is a beautiful peachy pink. it stands out more than nars sex machine and is pinkier than nars dolce vita. i find this pencil to be slightly more creamy and less drying than the nars velvet mattes, but still completely matte. i’ve got my eye on glace and framboise, as well as the butter cream lipsticks in pecan and heather. this was my first bite purchase and i am definitely going to get some more – any recommendations?
mac velvet teddy: my first mac lipstick and obviously i had to go for this classic shade. on my first application i was disappointed because i thought it was too brown on me, but with a second attempt i saw that it was actually the perfect mix of brown and pink. i’m loving the formula on this one and how subtle (did you guys know i like things subtle?!) it is but with a hint of edge. i just placed an order on the website for faux, kinda sexy, and mehr, and i cannot wait for them to arrive. i’m not one for trends, but i’m really liking that neutral lip shades are so big right now.
mac lip liners in whirl and soar: i really don’t usually pick up trend items, but i guess these mac purchases aren’t really a good example of that! despite the trendiness and the “kylie jenner look” that’s so big right now (blegh), i really do love these shades and i am so happy i decided to add them to my collection. the pencils are drying – they are pencils after all – but i love a serious matte so it’s fine by me.
