sephora vib sale roundup

ok soooo i went a little crazy this year at the vib sale, but i am so amped on my purchases.bb sephora vib purchases 2017.jpgbite beauty lip pencil in 08 and 012 // i am not a lip pencil girl.  i owned a couple mac lip liners at one point but those suckers are dry and scary, in my opinion.  i’m also not one to line my lips before putting on another lip product, so i went into the bite beauty lip pencils wanting to wear them as is, as my matte lip.  and these are incredible for that! the shade 08 is the perfect peachy nude – i don’t always think peach looks good on me but i’m pleased with how this mixes with my skin tone and natural lip color.  012 is a cool light pink, very close to my natural lip color but a little more mauve.  they are deliciously creamy and pigmented, and incredibly comfortable on the lips.  i was planning on only getting 012, but i’m pretty stoked that i got 08 as well.  i don’t think i’ll get any other shades but they are launching more next week…bite just kills it – between my new purchases and the products i already have, they are pretty much all i use on my lips these days.

beauty blender nude // i used to have a beauty blender, then got into the real techniques sponge.  i like both.  neither is totally necessary for my usual routine, but i think it’s a nice tool to have if you are taking more time on your makeup or just in the mood for a super flawless face.  when my rt sponge crapped out, i added the nude beauty blender to my list.  i don’t love the super bright pink one and liked how natural this one looked so that’s basically my reasoning for this purchase 😉

biossance squalane and antioxidant cleansing oil // i mentioned in my april picks that i am really enjoying oil cleansing right now.  i saw the brand biossance was launched at sephora and,  having never heard of them, started to research what they were all about.  they are pretty awesome brand – all natural, plant based, good price point, innovative concept.  so yeah i’m all in.  i saw they had this cleansing oil so i decided that would be the full size cleansing oil that i use after i finish my travel size of the little barn apothecary blue yarrow and geranium cleansing oil.  my favorite part about this cleanser is that it rinses clean – usually with a heavy oil cleanser you need a face cloth to wash it away (water and oil don’t mix remember?!), but this is very light and very easy to wash off.  i’ve only used it once because i want to finish my other one first but i’m pretty pleased with my first impression.  plus i’m all aboard the squalane train at the moment.

tata harper illuminating moisturizer // so i did decide to splurge on this product (i talked about it in this instagram post).  i had been looking for a clean product to replace my beloved mac strobe cream, as well as one of tata’s skincare products to try.  i went through a whole sample of this from sephora, so i knew i wanted to get it by the time the sale came around.  while i wouldn’t use this as my only moisturizer, it is the perfect in between step before makeup and after lotion/oil.  it’s a peachy pink color that adds a subtle warmth to the face, and has actual diamond powder that creates the most stunning glow.  i feel healthy and fresh when i wear this, and i know the ingredients are doing great things for my skin at the same time.  pricey, but i think it will last me a while and the ingredients are worth it.

surratt relevee eyelash curler // i’ve had my eyes on this lash curler since it came out.  i had just gotten my shu uemera curlers at that point, so i put the surratt curlers in the back of my mind.  truth be told, while i at first thought they were amazing, i have not been happy with the shu uemera’s.  they don’t fit my eye shape well, so i end up getting my lashes either half curled, half straight or just completely wonky and somewhat painful.  i keep hearing great reviews of this beauty, so i figured i would try it out during the sale and return it if i didn’t like it.  and from the very first use, i knew it was my perfect curler.  it opens extremely wide so you have room to get your lashes inside and the shape is somewhat straight, which apparently fits my eye shape the best.  the curl i get is curled but very gradual, so my lashes don’t look like they are sticky straight up but rather curling naturally.  i’m so impressed with this little contraption, and since curling my eyelashes is one of my favorite looks right now, this guy is a total winner.

what did you pick up during the sale?

makeup for a minimalist: a sephora order

baby bohemian new purchases 2.jpg

baby bohemian new purchases.jpg

hourglass illume sheer color palette // for whatever reason, this palette popped into my head the other day and i could not relax until i bought it.  thankfully it is still available!  it’s a gorgeous palette of cream products – bronzer, blush, and highlighter.  you guys know that i love cream bronzers and lately i have been all about the cream blushes as well.  my sister told me my skin looked really pretty and glowy one day and i just about fainted because it was the best compliment ever – so cream products it is!

upon my first use, i am so impressed with how creamy and pigmented this palette is.  i’m used to really warming up my cream products, especially the rms lip2cheek and tata harper volumizing lip&cheek tint, but you don’t need to do that with these creams.  they apply beautifully and stay creamy and glossy, not quite setting down to a powder finish, which i’m really excited about.  the bronzer is a great universal shade and the blush is a beautiful coral which is something i’m lacking in my makeup drawer.  the only highlighter i own is the rms living luminizer which cannot be replaced, but it will be nice to have something a little more gold especially in the summer.  all of the shades are subtle but very pigmented and creamy, and offer that gorgeous glow that i can’t resist on my skin.  i’m mad this is a limited edition product!

marc jacobs under(cover) coconut primer // this winter has been all about thin layers of moisture to combat the cold, dry chicago air.  and it has been working wonders!  a few months ago i got a travel size version of the too faced hangover primer and that has been a daily addition to my makeup because of that extra layer of hydration it gives.  since i’m almost done with it, i thought i would check out the marc jacobs primer as it is similar but a little more smoothing and moisturizing.  i got a sample size from sephora (honestly the best thing to do when you want new makeup but can’t spend the money) and must say i like it so much.  it just adds a little bit more everything than the too faced – more moisture, more glow, more dew, more slip – and is so fucking chic.  it is also gorgeous when mixed with a little dollop of mac strobe cream or glossier priming moisturizer.

ALSO i was able to get 10% off this order because i renewed my vib status at sephora (their points system) – i used this code: V436CB.  it will work for everyone who renews any status in the new year, which i learned about via temptalia.  bless her!

makeup for a minimalist: a sephora order

sephora vib sale & other recent buys

while i didn’t need any darn thing in the makeup category, i couldn’t resist making a sneaky order with the sephora vib sale (20% off)!  it’s too tempting.  buuuuut i will say i think i was pretty reserved and only got things that i have been wanting for a while, and did thorough research on for a long time – minus the blush i got.  when i was home a few weeks ago i also stopped into ulta (my happy place) and picked up two items that, again, i’ve been wanting to try for a long time.

ugh.  someone take my wallet away.

sephora // img_4366img_4368nars x sarah moon blush in isadora // this was a very random purchase for me.  it’s a pretty crazy color for my minimalist approach to makeup, but i couldn’t resist when i saw that it was available at sephora.  it’s actually beautiful!!  it’s such a natural flush of color with a hint of shimmer, and the plummy tones really work well with my cool toned, fair skin.  win!

first aid beauty ultra repair hydrating serum // with the changing of the seasons, my skin has gone back to it’s pretty dry self and i miss the summer sheen/glow/grease that i usually have a layer of.  i have been reading up on serums and can’t seem to find anything that fits my skincare needs, until this!  it has hyaluronic acid and anti-aging peptides, as well as other repairing ingredients like oatmeal and aloe leaf (these ingredients are standard in first aid beauty’s ultra repair products).  i’ve used it a few times at night only, and maybe it’s a placebo effect but i think i’m seeing some nice hydrating benefits and it works nicely with my mario badescu rosehip oil.  again, i’ll let you know how this performs over time!

bobbi brown bronzer brush // i have wanted this brush absolutely forever.  it’s such a high price point that i made myself swear i would only buy it if i could find it on sale.  sooooo!  i am apparently always on the hunt for the perfect bronzer/powder brush and i keep purchasing them but am never satisfied (or i like them for a little while and then change my mind).  would you guys like a brush review?  anyways, i love this brush and i think that it’s exactly what i’ve been searching for.  it’s not as densely packed as others (i’m looking at you bare minerals blender brush) so it applies the perfect amount of bronzer and blends it out so naturally.  i know the reviews on this aren’t the best, and while it does shed a little bit, i’m putting that on the fact that it’s new and hasn’t been washed yet (oops).  we’ll see!

ulta // IMG_4370.jpgtoo faced better than sex mascara // i have resisted purchasing this for so long.  it just looks so scary if i’m honest!  but i thought i would splurge on it since the sale was happening.  i’m sooo glad that i did!  when applied the way i apply mascara, it actually appears pretty subtle and natural, but with the amazing volume that i have been missing in my more natural looking mascaras.  i haven’t experienced too much flaking or smudging as some people mention in reviews, only at the very very end of the day when i’m about to take my makeup off anyways.

too faced hangover primer travel size // i’ve been wanting to try this primer for a while but didn’t want to commit to buying the whole tube.  when i saw this travel size version at ulta i knew it was exactly what i was waiting for!  and now i’m wondering why i didn’t buy the whole thing.  i’ve used this every day since purchasing it and i can’t tell you how amazing it is.  i wear very little makeup, so i never really noticed if it has faded or not during the day, but this stuff makes my makeup last from morning to night and now i can see the difference.  my blush, my bronzer is all staying put and i look as fresh as i did when i woke up in the morning.  it adds that little bit of extra glow and moisture to my skin that i’m dreaming of.  plus it doesn’t have silicone in it, so that’s a big plus from me as it doesn’t feel like it’s clogging my pores or filling my skin.

did you do any purchases during the sale?  let me know so i don’t feel so bad!

an impromptu new york trip

when you get the chance to take a quick trip to new york city, you do it.  ditch your boss, ditch your boyfriend, ditch real life and goooooo!  and no trip to new york is complete without some serious buyer’s remorse and an empty wallet, so here are the things that i picked up while there…and surprisingly, i don’t feel too remorseful!IMG_4312 (1).jpgsephora eye shadow in snakeskin dress // i have been looking for the perfect golden olive eye shadow for a little while now.  i was just about to splurge on mac’s sumptuous olive ($16) when i came across this sephora eye shadow.  overall i really think sephora’s eponymous makeup line is full of some really great hidden gems, and this eyeshadow is no exception!  it’s a huge pan, the exact color i wanted, and really high-end, all for $10!

sephora must have large powder brush // this is my all time favorite bronzer and powder brush.  it’s also probably the first makeup brush i ever owned, besides the ones that came in the bare minerals starter set (i got that for my 15th birthday and i was just over the  moon – hello introduction to makeup – i used to use all the powders all over so my face was reminiscent of a pumpkin).  i got rid of mine a while ago because the handle broke and i resisted buying a new one as they are relatively pricey, but i’m glad i finally splurged.

maybelline master strobe in light 100 // i spotted this randomly while at the drugstore one day.  it looks super pink in the tube, but is actually a really nice soft glow when i apply it to my skin.  i haven’t tried them, but i think this looks a lot like the glossier haloscope highlighters – they even have another more golden shade that is very reminiscent of the haloscope in topaz.  does anyone know if these are a good dupe for the glossier?

rms lip and skin balm // you might know that i absolutely love using vaseline as my eye cream at night, and on any really dry areas on my face and lips.  i know that vaseline is not actually the best for you, so i’ve been looking for an alternative to this staple product.  i read that this rms balm is basically the same as vaseline but all natural, so i decided to treat myself and see if this is similar/better/worse.  so far i really love it and feel like it is even more moisturizing on my undereyes and eyelids, but i really hate the smell.  i got the vanilla (i preferred it to the cocoa) but i hope that rms releases an unscented version.

surfistas travelogue // i spotted this mag (i think there is only one issue out right now) while in the lou&grey store on fifth avenue and i couldn’t leave without it.  it’s kind of a surfer/bohemian spirit travel guide, with this issue focusing on indonesia, venezuela, peru, and mexico.  i’m excited to read it cover to cover.  also the lou&grey store is so cool!  a must visit if you are in the area.

madewell northside sunglasses in spruce horn // i don’t think i’ve ever gotten a pair of sunglasses at madewell before, but i saw these and knew i needed them.  they actually remind me a lot of this ray-ban pair that i have been contemplating purchasing, but for a much more realistic price.  i really like the sort of black and tan stripey/tortoise pattern and they sit well on my face.  still a bit pricey but worth it and they are now on sale online!

gap modern long sleeve tees // i needed some basic long sleeve shirts and these are the best so i’m told!  they’re thick and stretchy, and are a nice length.  can’t feel bad about buying staples! (not shown)

let me tell you a story

IMG_4353.JPG

let’s flashback to the summer of 2014.  i was interning in the beauty industry and just finding out about these things called beauty blogs and youtube channels.  before this internship, i was never really interested in beauty – before you ask, i was interning in public relations – and really didn’t know much about the beauty world.  but as i worked more, i learned more, and i loved more.  ok, now to the point.  all i wanted that summer was the ysl nail polish in bleu celadon.  it was the perfect pastel turquoise – not as chalky as essie mint candy apple, a little more pastel, and it looked like an insanely beautiful formula.  i watched my first beauty love, vivianna does makeup, wear it in videos and i wanted it so bad.  and yet, it was gone.  damn those limited editions for us who are always late to the game!

after searching and searching, i gave up on this beautiful polish.  i accepted the fact that i would never have it.  i searched for dupes, and i tried many similar polishes.  i continued to dream about bleu celadon, but i had accepted the fact that it would never be mine.

ok now fast forward to 2 days ago.  when i wandered into the cutest little cosmetics store i had never been in.  and there.  it.  was.  bleu celadon.  and now it’s mine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it’s amazing what an incredibly overpriced nail polish can do for your spirit.
