i do these posts very sporadically – sometimes i feel like saving my garbage and sometimes i don’t, frankly! i would have preferred to keep going because i’m going through some interesting products, but your girl is moving and no one has time to move trash from place to place. though you could argue that about most of my knick knacks *insert crying laughing emoji* BUT on to the products!
// body items //the burt’s bees citrus & ginger body wash was a really nice body wash that smelled absolutely incredible. i’m a sucker for all things grapefruit. this was kind of a mix between an oil and a soap that was very lightweight and nicely cleansing. i mostly use a castille bar soap in the shower, but i wouldn’t hesitate to buy this again if i was in the mood for a body wash.
i originally purchased the everyday oil 2 oz to use as a face cleanser and oil, but the essential oils in it were a little too strong for my skin. i used it up by mixing it with the skin trip lotion and it was an amazing body combination. everyday oil recently released an unscented blend so i am very interested in purchasing that one in the 8 oz size to use for body and face this time.the primal pit paste in jasmine is my absolute favorite natural deodorant so i have already repurchased this in both stick and jar form. i prefer this to schmidt’s because it doesn’t seem to leave any stains on my clothes.
the mountain ocean coconut skin trip has been mentioned a million and one times over here, but it is an excellent lightweight body moisturizer. it smells amazing and is perfect alone for summer or mixed with an oil for winter. i am currently using a shea moisture body lotion i got at tj maxx, but i will always repurchase the skin trip.
// skincare items, especially sprays and cleansers //the heritage store rosewater & glycerin is my favorite hydrating mist/toner. i always have one of these lying around – or, more accurately, sitting in the fridge. i love the inclusion of glycerin in this for extra oomph, but the plain rosewater version is beautiful too. just a basic, effective product that is a staple for me.
similar to the heritage store rosewater & glycerin is the herbivore botanicals rose hibiscus coconut mist. now i got this in the birchbox x vogue 125th anniversary box last year, but i have since purchased the 2 oz size for travel. i don’t think this does enough to really merit the price tag ($32 for 4 oz), but it is a beautiful product if you want a skincare splurge. i would repurchase this, but it’s not the end all-be all in my opinion.
the pai rosehip bioregenerate oil is a really lovely rosehip oil that i used primarily in the winter. this was nice because it was thick, but not too thick, so it didn’t feel too heavy to use during the day as well as the night. the price point ($40) is excellent and i would definitely repurchase this when next winter rolls around.
one of the best mineral sunscreens i have found is the clinique mineral spf 30 sunscreen. it’s lightweight, hydrating, doesn’t leave a white cast, and is easy to find. the only complaint is the small size (1 oz for $28), but for a good sunscreen i don’t think that’s too bad. i am currently enjoying the clinique city block spf 25, but i will definitely repurchase this dude in the future.the mad hippie eye cream lasted me absolutely forever – over a full year. this was a great eye cream for hydration and plumping – i don’t suffer from bad dark circles so i can’t speak to its abilities in that area. i love the mad hippie brand and this was another excellent product from the line. i am currently using an acure eye cream i got at tj maxx, but i would definitely repurchase this in the future.
the trilogy make-up be gone cleansing balm is another product that lasted me aaaages. it’s not the only balm cleanser i’ve tried, but the only one i want to use. simple, but very effective. trilogy is another brand that i trust for natural products with great ingredients – though they do use a lot of essential oils, so that’s just something to be aware of. will definitely repurchase next winter. the glossier milky jelly cleanser is a product that i keep coming back to. it’s not the best cleanser out there, but i do enjoy it. the rose scent can be a bit much, but i like the texture and that it doesn’t dry out my skin. it’s not the best cleanser i’ve ever tried, but i’m sure i will come back to it again in the future.i went through the mad hippie cream cleanser really quickly – too quickly. it was a great cleanser that reminded me a lot of the first aid beauty cleanser that i love. the packaging made me extremely nervous because it’s class, and i was mostly using this in the shower. if you are looking for a cream cleanser this is a very solid option that is hydrating but not too creamy, if that makes sense. i will definitely repurchase this next winter when my skincare routine needs a bit of oomph.
// masks and extras //
the glossier moisturizing moon mask is one i almost always have lying around, at least until i discovered the next empty on this list. it’s a great hydrating mask that makes the skin feel plump and glowing. plus, i keep the containers around for holding cotton pads and other items for travel! i don’t think i will repurchase this because i have found something i like better, but i still recommend it. the bioderma sensibio mask is VERY clearly well-loved – i have never cut a product in half to get all the leftover product! it’s like the glossier moon mask but so much more hydrating and never stings my skin when i’m dry (the glossier does do that to me occasionally). i like everything about this mask, from the texture to the easy tube. if you are trying to decide between this and glossier, i would go with the bioderma, but the glossier is still a great option. this one just seems to have more lasting hydrating and soothing effects.
the nails inc nailkale superfood base coat was one of the items i purchased in the sephora vib sale this month. it’s the best base coat i’ve ever tried and worth the higher price tag. i pretty much only buy this when the sephora sale comes around and the bottle lasts me a full year or two. this continued to work perfectly even as i made my way to the bottom of the bottle. and finally, i also finished a bottle of seche CLEAR. and no, i didn’t totally finish it, but it got to a point where i needed a new one – if you wear nail polish you know what i mean. very funny story – for the entire year or so i’ve had this i thought it was seche vite and didn’t think about the fact that it wasn’t fast drying. i only noticed about a week ago when my sister pointed it out that her nails weren’t drying very quickly! hahaha!
wheewww it feels good to throw all this garbage out! i completely dig these posts and videos as it shows what people actually use up and love – and that’s pretty rare in these days of insane overconsumption. i can’t promise to always keep my trash around, but i will try to continue to save any interesting things i finish up! what have you finished up recently? is it something you can’t live with out? let me know in the comments!

fall essentials & the trends
welcome to autumn everyone! i thought i would do an extended roundup of what i’m predicting to be using and wearing this fall. today’s post is all about beauty and skincare, and part 2, coming soon, will be style related. what are your fall essentials?skincare: bringing back the hydration
i mentioned that i had made a few changes to my skincare routine in my recent monthly picks post, and i promise i will go in more detail soon! but for now, i’m adding extra hydration to my dry skin with the help of the earth tu immortelle face balm as a balm cleanser (i got this in the vogue x birchbox set and don’t love it, especially because the price is just ridiculous. i’m using it up as a balm cleanser which it is great as, but i certainly will not repurchase), jordan samuel hydrate serum, and pai bioregenerate rosehip oil.
face mists are a must, of course, and my current go-to’s are the heritage rose & glycerin spray and herbivore botanicals rose hibiscus coconut mist. i have noticed such a difference in the moisture level of my skin since cracking open the herbivore mist so that is getting a lot of love right now. not only do i spray these mists on my face, but i mix them with my oils and moisturizers as well. they help the skin soak up the product and hydration quickly and effectively.
now even if you need extra hydration like me, you still need to exfoliate the skin. my favorite gentle exfoliating treatments are the frank body glow mask and tata harper resurfacing mask. i’ve been using the tata mask for years but funnily enough have never purchased the full size product! i guess i’m really good at snagging sample sizes 😉
makeup: light, glowing base
i know, i know, how many times can i talk about a light, glowing base?!?! but stick with me, there are some new goods here! i love to use the embryolisse lait creme concentrate as either a last step in my skincare, as a primer, or as a refresh if i did my skincare earlier in the day. somehow i’ve never mentioned embryolisse on the blog, but it’s a staple moisturizer for me that i’ve been using for over a year now. i finally got my hands on the first aid beauty hello fab coconut primer (not living near a sephora is pure misery) and it is exactly what i was hoping it would be. glowing and hydrating, this makes the skin look radiant but completely natural.
my ilia tinted moisturizer is still my best friend, and somehow the color i have isn’t too dark yet. i will be purchasing a lighter shade as soon as my skin changes enough though, i promise you that! sometimes i mix it with the glossier perfecting skin tint, sometimes i wear them each on their own, just depending on how i feel and how my skin looks. however, more often that not these days i’ve just been using my alima pure powder foundation. it’s really nice over the first aid beauty primer to tone down the sheen and give a hint of coverage to the skin.
on my cheeks, i’m all about three blushes i’ve had for a while now: the pixi multibalm blush in baby petal, eminence illuminator blush in chai berry, and rimmel blush in santa rose. the eminence and rimmel are very similar, with the former being a hint warmer, so definitely go for the rimmel if you want a similar look. the cream blush is a beautiful warm pink that works even on my cool skin and the powder blushes give a hint of sheeny flush.makeup: peachy, nude lips
soooo all of these lip products are basically the same but in a range of finishes. the nars pure matte lipstick in montego bay is my favorite matte, my-lips-but-better shade that i am sincerely hoping has not been discontinued. glossier cake is pretty much invisible but makes me feel like i’ve made some kind of effort. bite beauty lip pencil in 08 is the peachy nude of my dreams and is creamy and moisturizing enough to be worn on its own. kosas stardust you knoooow that i am completely in love with when i’m in the mood for some sheen. and finally the beautiful fat & the moon wood nymph, which is a cool-toned beigey nude that i like on my lips and eyes.makeup: soft, earthy eyes
as far as real makeup goes, there’s something about a wash of brown or taupe on the eye that i can’t get enough of. my favorites are the aforementioned fat & the moon wood nymph for something creamy and matte, wet-n-wild nutty for a subtle brown bronze, rms swift shadow in tt-73 for a sheeny brown that is as perfect for day as it is for night, and cargo yukon, the most perfect taupe. i’ve also been getting into a little eyeliner these days, mostly using mac teddy eye kohl for a warm shimmering brown and sephora contour liner in flirting game for a cool shimmering taupe. just a hint of liner with mascara and no other makeup is super beautiful, in my opinion.
nails: new neutrals
besides my usual red or taupe nails, i’ve been loving some more unique shades like j.hannah ghost ranch and j.hannah x lcd watermelon. the j.hannah polishes are truly the best formula i’ve come across, even though the price tag is steep. opi’s opi scores a goal is my favorite burgundy that is equally great on hands and toes. sephora formula x in obsessed is a rouge noir shade that i don’t usually love on me (something about the mix of a deep red with my pink skin makes my hands look extra red), but makes me feel very sophisticated.stayed tuned for part 2 coming soon!
