tomorrow me and (part of) the fam are headed to one of my favorite places…california, duh! you know i love a good travel post, so here’s what i’ve got coming along with me >>
makeup:nothing too exciting, but i’m bringing along the usual nars creamy concealer in vanilla, w3ll people bronzer and brightening powders, gabriel eyeshadow in sable, rms swift shadow in tt-73 (side note, i haven’t talked about this shadow but it is amazing. so soft, so beautiful and is glowy instead of shimmery. i’ve been wearing it every day since purchasing, even with nothing else on my face. total love), tata harper volumizing lip&cheek in very charming, gressa lip boost in bare, mini bite beauty lipstick in meringue, shu uemera eyelash curlers, real techniques powder and expert face brushes, meow meow tweet baking soda-free lavender deodorant, and ursa major deodorant. plus some hair twisties and clips, of course.
side note, does deodorant count as makeup or skincare? probably skincare, but i’m bucking the system as per.
skincare (&liquids):again, the usual suspects with some fun stuff thrown in. for example, i got a new sunscreen since my other one is too big for travelling and i’m not comfortable taking it out of its container and exposing it to sunlight. so: mychelle sun shield, cetaphil lotion, mini trilogy mist, mini trilogy cleansing balm, dr tung’s floss (sexy), maison louis marie no.4 bois de balincourt perfume oil, weleda skin food, go-to face hero, dr. bronner’s hand sanitizer, living libations all seeing eye cream.
and the rest:the other stuff in my plane bag includes another of the miss fisher series by kerry greenwood, the bookshop by penelope fitzgerald, and the house at the end of hope street by menna van praag. just picked up those last two the other day and am really excited to start reading them. wallet is from minor history, sunglasses from ray-ban, and headphones from bose – a lovely christmas from my sister quite a few years ago now.
jewelry: pretty pared down (for me) since i never end up wearing what i pack on trips anyways. tiffany silver bangle (my high school graduation present – it says dream a little dream), thin gold rings from various etsy shops, gold ball chain that can be worn as a necklace or bracelet, mermaidbyhand (now eliza sloane jewels) abalone ring, beaded earrings that were a gift from my sis, sarah chloe monogram necklace, salt&summit turquoise ring, vintage turquoise flower earrings which were a birthday present a few years ago, gold ear pins from etsy, and anthropologie gold ear jackets that were my birthday present this year. dude, my family gives me good stuff!
so there you go my lovelies. what are your travel must-haves? what am i forgetting?!!
chunky 3 stone ring :: this ring is extremely sacred to me. it was one of my first etsy purchases, and vintage purchases, about 4 years ago. it features 2 amethyst stones of different tones and garnet, which is my birthstone and one of my favorites, on sterling silver. it was reiki blessed by the seller and gives me strong and positive vibes. it’s incredibly unique and though i don’t wear it as often as i should it is extremely precious to me and one of the most beautiful pieces i own.pink stone pendant :: unfortunately i don’t know anything about this piece. i bought it while living in boston at one of my favorite shops, flock. i wish that i knew what type of stone this is – if you know, please share!
sarah&chloe monogram pendant :: i’ve definitely talked about this before. i bought this formyself a few years ago when i was searching for a gold pendant that would rest slightly lower on my chest than my other dainty necklaces. this piece looks great worn every day with tee shirts or whatever – it’s very versatile. i love having my monogram on it and i’m glad i splurged to buy myself this special item.
madewell earrings :: these are actually a new purchase over the last few weeks but i am absolutely obsessed. they are so unique and fun and me. they feature a studded backing at the top so they are totally secure in my ears, even though they are slightly heavier than i would normally wear. i love the worn-in brass of madewell jewelry and the great price point. i definitely recommend.
mermaidbyhand turquoise moon tide pendant :: this stunning necklace features a huge sleeping beauty turquoise slab with a small brass moon gracing the top right corner. from the colors to the silver and brass elements, i am absolutely in awe of this piece. i love all of eliza’s jewels, but this is definitely a sacred piece in my collection. i love having it around, even if it is not on my body. drift/riot sunrise cuff bracelet :: this is actually called the sunday girl cuff, but it is a sunrise to me! made of brass this cuff is incredibly sturdy but dainty at the same time. it’s such an unexpected shape and style for me – i’m pretty simply when it comes to bracelets – and it reminds me of my love of sunrises and sunsets. it harnesses the power of the sun for me, and i feel that strength when i wear it.
misshapen evil eye necklace :: oooh i love a good evil eye! i have had a couple evil eye necklaces in the past, but this one eclipsed them all when i found it. i love the odd shape of the pendant and the extremely fine chain. i got this at a boston store called baubles and lace for really cheap and i just love it so much. it reminds me of living in boston, being with my sister, and all the hard times and the good times.
salt&summit royston turquoise ring :: this is an amazing turquoise ring, featuring a triangular royston turquoise cab. royston turquoise is my absolute favorite and the shape of this ring is so unique. i love the bright sterling of the setting and the etchings that surround the stone. i wasn’t able to wear this for a while because i had to get it sized, but now that i have it again i have had a hard time not wearing it! it is so unique and simply beautiful. royston turquoise ring :: this ring is extremely special to me. i bought it quite a few years ago, and actually picked the stone out myself. however i really didn’t like the setting it was in, and it just didn’t do the stone justice. i got in touch with eliza of mermaidbyhand and we came up with a design that i was more happy with. i sent her the ring and she completely reworked it for me. i am so in love with what we came up with. it is simple and sturdy and lets you focus on the stone. i love the green elements in this stone, and the earthly feel it gives. this is definitely one of my power pieces. so there you go! these are some of my favorite pieces of jewelry in my collection. jewelry is incredibly special to me, and i truly love finding and collecting different pieces. i truly don’t feel like myself if i’m not wearing any jewelry and it is something that makes me feel safe and secure. jewelry just speaks to me, and i think with these pieces it is clear why.

some items i’m loving and trying out at the moment // both pretty new and very old
evan healy lavender hydrosoul // i’ve talked about this many a time. i ran out of my previous bottle at around the same time it went out of stock on the website, so i have been out of it for a while. it is one of the products that i see results with – my skin is glowier, healthier, and dewier when using it daily
nars hot sand illuminator // i wanted this a while back when it was limited edition, but missed out. they recently (or maybe not so recently, i’m not sure) brought it out permanently, so i decided to finally try it. i have mostly been mixing it with my glossier perfecting skin tint for a little bit of extra glow and it works beautifully without being obvious at all. i’m looking forward to trying it just dabbed onto the cheekbones as well
w3ll people bio correct concealer in light // i picked up a sample of this at follain about two weeks ago when i realized my nars concealer had gotten too light. it’s a little bit drying but overall i really like it and am going to continue using it until my sample has run out (i think it’s going to last me a very long time – score!)
hourglass ambient lighting blush in dim infusion // i bought this blush last year and it was maybe the first blush i’ve ever tried. at first i was unimpressed, but was pretty unimpressed with blush in general. i dug this out a few days ago and have since been loving it. it’s a subtle peachy flush with a subtle shimmer and it’s pretty perfect
benefit hoola bronzer // probably the first bronzer i ever tried like 7 years ago. it’s been my staple ever since and no matter what i try, i always go back to this at some point. this one is a little battered but we’re still going strong
sephora uniform complexion powder brush // i ordered this from sephora when i ordered the nars hot sand. this is what my sister uses for blush so i thought i would try it out as well. it applies a subtle amount of color and is soooooo soft. i like it much better than my elf blush brush which is a bit too dense i’m realizing
my turquoise and ruby (?) rings // two of my absolute favorite rings in my collection. the ruby looking one is i think the first big gem ring i ever bought, and it has remained a firm favorite since then. it looks so good with a tan and is such a gorgeous color – it always puts me in a good mood. i love this smaller turquoise guy because it is one of the only rings i wear on my actual ring finger, and it’s worn pretty much daily
thin gold band // the thinnest of thin rings. it took me a while to find one this thin but then i found this etsy shop. it’s so understated and pretty much invisible on my pointer finger, perfect with my chunkier rings
charm necklace // my parents got me this tiffany necklace with the x charm for my 16th birthday. the lighthouse and shell charms i got when i was 13 and have switched them from necklace to necklace over the years. this is the first time in a long time that i have worn these charms, but i can’t seem to take them off. they all have special meaning and are very close to my heart
gold evil eye necklace // i got this last summer when a local designer was having a huuuuge sale. i like it because it sits a little lower on my chest and is great paired with other necklaces, like my silver one. plus i love evil eyes!
