Looking Forward…

On the brink of starting my real life (post-college) and moving into my first apartment (with or without a roommate), I have been considering what I want this space to look like.

My room style has evolved a lot since pink floral quilt, and I like to think that I am developing a sense of style that extends past fashion and into interiors.  I am very attracted to light, clean colored rooms, dark wood floors and little pops of color in the details.  I think “cozy” is the best word to describe my decorating aesthetic.

Here are some photos that have been getting me excited to find and decorate my big girl apartment.  By the way, most of these images are from the Free People blog – BLDG 25.  They have a “Decor” tab and if I could live in those photographs, I would.  I definitely recommend checking it out.

On The Hunt For…

An oversized blazer.  I’m dying for one.  I found a good one at Mango online but I’m not sure how their stuff runs and it’s pretty expensive so I’m still looking.  Here’s what’s making me want one (or two…or three…):

Also, though I couldn’t find a good picture, Taylor Jacobson always rocked big blazers and tee shirts on The Rachel Zoe Project…Check her out!

(Winter) Wardrobe Essentials

I’m always interested in what items other people feel are essential in a wardrobe. One of my fashion idols, Leandra Medine, lists the following as her essentials: light-washed jeans, white sneakers, bright single-sole pump, black blazer, and a denim shirt. While I think this is a pretty solid list, I have some additions.

(admittedly, most of my white tee shirts are old Jockey v-necks that I have stolen from my dad…soooo soft)

Free People We The Free Rory Tees: Ok I have a few of these in various colors.  They’re thaaaat good.  They’re a thick, super soft fabric in an oversized fit. Love under sweaters cause the shirt tail hem really shows.

J.Crew V-Neck Tissue Tees: …I also have these in a few colors.  Love how thin and sheer they are.  These are pretty much the only “tight” tee shirts I own (quotes around tight because they aren’t really that tight. I hate tight shirts…)

Alternative Apparel Men’s Perfect Vintage Organic Pima T-Shirt: Love Alternative men’s tees.  Perfect with tight jeans or under blazers to dress them down.  Love a tee I can sleep in and then wear out the next day…

Citizens of Humanity Rockets: I think these were my first pair of really good high waisted jeans.  They’re amazing.  The perfect rise, super skinny, you know the drill.

Madewell High Riser Skinny Skinny: A newer favorite.  I got my first pair this summer and somehow I’ve racked up quite the collection.  Really cute ankle length and a super flattering fit.  Great range of colors.

(I recommend having 3 pairs of jeans: a dark wash, a black or washed black wash, and a medium, regular denim wash)

(again, these are mostly stolen from my dad or guy friends!)

Gap Men’s Cotton Cashmere Crew Sweater: I have a few of these and they are a great basic.  I usually get mediums since I like them to look like they are stolen from the boys.

Polo Ralph Lauren French-Rib Half-Zip Pullover Sweater: These are amazing on a lazy day.  They are somewhere between a sweater and a sweatshirt.  Plus you can almost always find them at Macy’s or Carson’s on sale.

I have a bunch of wool coats that I’ve collected over the years so I can’t post them all here, but I love the Zara options.  They are relatively inexpensive and really great quality in my experience.  Wool coats are great because they look chic and sophisticated, but are still warm and cozy for winter.

Zara Funnel Coat: I just got this and I am in love!  It’s the perfect black wool coat.  The funnel neck is so fun but still really simple.  And for only $60!  Weeeeeee.

Zara Coat with Detachable Fur Collar: Oh how I love this.  I tried it on at Zara a few weeks ago and unfortunately didn’t purchase but it is a great coat.  Really cool fit and very unique.  I would take the fur off but just because it was kind of overpowering.

Anthropologie Nonie Check Coat: How cute is this?!  I have two really old plaid coats that are always in my winter rotation.  I’m a pretty minimal dresser so I think it’s fun to add a patterned coat to an otherwise simple outfit.

Sam Edelman Petty: I live in my black Petty’s.  Super comfy with a teensy heel.  The more worn in the better.  Should I get the tannish/grey pair?

Frye Veronica Shortie: Currently on my Christmas list.  I like these because they are short, but not too short.  I’m picturing them with that Gap crew neck sweater.

Madden Girl Dobby Boot: Combat-style boots are really “in” right now, but I like them because they add masculinity to a more feminine outfit.  I have a really old pair that I got for super cheap, but I’m really liking this pair because they are on the shorter side.

Well there you go!  Not only are these my winter wardrobe essentials, these are basically the outfits I wear every. single. day.  Oops.
